Fallkniven X Series A1

The Fallkniven X Series A1 is, arguably, the worlds most functional and high performing survival knife and with it's extra size and weight will handle many bigger jobs it's smaller cousins might struggle with. It is certainly one of the best made with the best materials and at a price that, considering the spec, is a bargain. The X series certainly has the X factor!

The basis of the X-knife’s strength lies in the laminated cobalt steel in combination with the well-thought-out construction in which break zones have been eliminated. Together with the hand-shaped convex edge, the X-knife is a concept that beats everything else in the world in terms of safety, comfort and hard use.

Lam. Cos stands for Laminated Cobalt Steel. It is at least 20% stronger than a solid stainless steel. The A1X uses a steel "sandwich". The "bread" is almost corrosion free, 420J stainless with a super hard Cobalt Steel "filling."

The Fallkniven X Series A1 is supplied with a Kydex sheath with a "transport lock." Meaning the knife can be stored in a ready to go position or locked in so it can be stored in the tip up or down position.

If I had to take one knife......

Posted by Adam Hocking on 1st Jun 2022

By far the most expensive knife I have ever bought, considered reviews and testing that can be found online very carefully before purchasing. I'm very pleased that I did buy. Almost didn't want to use it because of the cost, but it was bought to be functional not to sit in a box. Only used once backpacking/ camping so far. Doesn't seem overly large, but is weighty, if you're trying to keep your load down. The thick spine gives confidence of its robustness and chops well due to its slightly forward balance. Can easily be manipulated for finer tasks. The sheath is solid and with the locking mechanism engaged I can't dislodge the knife from it, which is reassuring, would hate for it to dissapear. There is a slight rattle however. The handle shape is comfortable, fits my hand and allows for good indexing, likewise the scales afford a good grip with adequate grip space if you were to wear gloves. Was sharp out the box. Overall, if I had to take only one knife it would be this one.

    Fallkniven A1X

Very impressed with the performance. Came out the box razor sharp and bites through wood like a hot knife through butter. Just be sure to get the sharpening stone too then your pretty much set for life. Bit on the pricey side but if you buy once you cry once.

    Fallknive A1X

Yeah, stunning knife, batons and chops like the beast it is, I have got an Armatus Architect sheath for it which really makes the knife for me, the supplied sheath is good but the Armatus is superb.

    Fantastic

I have wanted a Fallkniven 1 series for a long time and the introduction of the X variants has made them a reality for me at the price point. I chose the A1x over the S1 as other blades I own are comparable to the S1 in length, but I have nothing similar to the A1x in terms of width or just sheer heft. This blade is reassuringly broad! I feel confident that this blade will last me a lifetime of moderate chopping, I am not an over zealous competitive batoner of wood (saw and axe), but the A1x will not shy away from set tasks, just watch the available reviews.... The Lam Cos is easy to sharpen with Jasper and Jade, though not tried with Shapton Glass yet, but I foresee no problem. I love this tool, it is immense. If I have a doubt, it is the sheath.... I understand it is an improvement on prior iterations, but it still looks a bit lame and considering the price. Of course, that is purely subjective and it does it’s job admirably well. However, for my taste I shall have a leather sheath made. I would heartily recommend this tool if you would like a blade of these proportions and with such fab steel. Service from Heinnie Haynes has been impeccable and more keenly priced than their mainland European based competitor!

    It`s a beauty and a beast!

The knife is simply beautiful and feels very comfy to use. It looks and feels incredibly tough and cuts wood like butter! It cuts through almost anything pretty easily (in a review video the dutch guys used a Lam. COS knife to cut through a brick and it stayed sharp...)! It is expensive but in this case you get what you expect and it should last at least a lifetime. I could use a little extra length (2-4 cm) for the thickness, however maybe it would mess up the perfect balance of the blade. With a little practice it is pretty easy to sharpen. 400 g seems to be heavy but for me it doesn`t feel too heavy at all. The sheet is perfect, safe and quiet. All-round great knife! Heinnie delivered it very quickly, one day after I placed the order and I was lucky there was an offer going on as well. Awesome service!

    Money well spent.

I purchased the Fallkniven A1 X after much deliberation and reading various reviews on different web sites. It is a heavy knife but comfortable and well balanced in the hand. The tang stands proud of the scales and various reviews have said that this makes it uncomfortable to use for long periods. However the scales are chamfered off so it is not much of an issue. I can see that exposure to the tang in freezing weather might be troublesome so will have to wear gloves. I was drawn to buying it by the sales pitch which made it sound like it was the best knife in the world. No knife is suitable for everything but this knife will be a handy companion which I can trust, anything from chopping fire wood or slicing sushi. It is extremely sharp. I will see how I get on with the scales and may replace them with some suitable hardwood in the future.
