The Fallkniven S1 black is, arguably, the worlds most functional and high performing survival knife with a slightly longer and fuller bellied blade than its little brother, the F1. It is certainly one of the best made with the best materials and at a price that, considering the spec, is a bargain! The X series certainly has the X factor!

The basis of the X-knife’s strength lies in the laminated cobalt steel in combination with the well-thought-out construction in which break zones have been eliminated. Together with the hand-shaped convex edge, the X-knife is a concept that beats everything else in the world in terms of safety, comfort and hard use.

Lam. Cos stands for Laminated Cobalt Steel. It is at least 20% stronger than a solid stainless steel. The S1X uses a steel "sandwich". The "bread" is almost corrosion free, 420J stainless with a super hard Cobalt Steel "filling." Factor in the Tungsten Carbide coating, which increases the blades surface hardness to 2400 HV (Vickers) or around HRC 83 and you have a edge of supreme cutting capability.

The Fallkniven X Series S1 Black is supplied with a Kydex sheath with a "transport lock." Meaning the knife can be stored in a ready to go position or locked in so it can be stored in the tip up or down position.

PRY BAR WITH A RAZOR EDGE! S1X BLACK.

Posted by Steven on 24th Jun 2022

I purchased this knife late last year I believe from Heinie. As per the delivery was quicker than quick and also free, which is also a bonus! On receiving the blade I was immediately drawn to just how thick the spine was on this particular Fällkniven knife! I was a little worried this would impair the slicing and cutting performance of the knife! Let me tell you! This is no hindrance to its overall performance! It slices very well it cuts awesomely? And my god does it look good! This is all thanks to the quality convex grind on the bevel. The tungsten carbide finish is rated to 85 hrc and the steel is LamCos, the edge is like a razor which proven very easy to re hone when required. All in all, its a low maintenance hi quality knife. If you would like to check out my full table top and field use of this knife, you can check them out at Bushcrafty Ste only on youtube. Take care.

    Fjallkniven X series S1

Posted by Paddy Field on 24th Oct 2021

Firstly excellent service from HH as always. The knife handle feels slim(I do have large hands) so as previously mentioned it may be designed for use with gloves, this may explain why parts that shouldn’t feel sharp ,do. The finger guard is very squared off as is the spine and the hilt,if you were battening all day without gloves you could hurt yourself. I took a small fine file and took a wee bit off and it’s ok now,it’s going to be used as a tool and not put on display so I expect it to get marked sooner or later. The sheath is very secure, but I’m going to have a go at making a leather one,the reason is if I’m going to be using gloves I can only grip the handle with 2 fingers as the knife sits quite deeply in the plastic sheath and you need to press the button with your thumb or slightly angle the knife towards the font when the catch is set to the release position, this obviously means an insecure initial grip which could result in a accident or simply dropping the knife in a shall we say rapid deployment. All that said,it still gets 5 stars as it’s a great knife and HH have never let me down.

    Fallkniven on steroids

Posted by Chris on 22nd Sep 2021

Awesome bit of kit, yes it’s a bit of a sharpened pry bar but that’s what I wanted, the coating is smooth as so no issues there. The handle is actually the first fallkniven handle I have gotten on with. The full tang actually helps by getting rid of some of the annoying rubber they use. Much prefer cold steels rubber handles. That said fallkniven steel is just great, this is so much stronger than my f1 so a great all rounder, and still has a strop angle of 25degrees even though it’s a half convex grind. Love it and I have some great steel but this is now my go to general knife. HH service great as usual, shame can’t be said for my local post office!!

    Love it

Posted by Chris on 16th Jun 2020

Admittedly my first foray into a knife this expensive so not much to compare to. But I personally love it. Really strong and can strop it surprisingly hair popping, paper shaving sharp. I feel the handle doesn’t fill my hand as much as I’d like but think it’s meant to be used with airman’s gloves. Found it something like 60 quid cheaper on HH than the main German competitor and came next day mid covid lockdown!
