Description

You asked we listened!

The CRKT Pilar has been a firm favourite ever since it was launched and as soon as we saw it our thoughts immediately turned to how great it would be as a non-locking, UK friendly carry knife with, of course, the Heinnie® red G10 scales.

Fast forward to the present and here it is - the CRKT Pilar Heinnie Haynes® UK Edition! All the same features remain that made it such a popular knife in the first place; thick Wharncliff blade, generous thumb hole for opening, low carry pocket clip, perfect size for everyday use and exceptional Voxnaes design. This version is a non-locking slipjoint knife. It's extremely sharp, out of the box, with the red being a vibrant, bright red, perfectly offset with the shiny satin of the blade and metal hardware.

CRKT Pilar Heinnie Haynes UK edition

Posted by RobC on 23rd Jul 2025

Excellent little knife. Closed, it's the same length as a Victorinox spartan, tinker, hiker etc. It opens easily one-handed, and doesn't snap shut in a way that'll risk your fingers. The blade is shorter than the standard blade you'd see on a SAK, but much, much more substantial - the thickness shouldn't have surprised me because it's right there in the specs but at almost 4mm I've owned meat cleavers that are thinner. The blade was fairly sharp, but did benefit from a quick strop. I do like the finger choil but this is not a knife I'd choose for poking holes so there was never going to be much risk of it closing in use even without the choil. Perfect for EDC in jeans, but I'll stick to something slimmer for office days.

    Pilar

One of my favourite UK legal knives. Top quality. Great steel. Holds an edge for ages. Very discreet. Easy to carry. Does not look offensive or 's****by'! Would be good if pocket clip could be changed to suit easier opening when removing from pocket - to me it's the wrong round.

    Perfect in Every Way

Posted by Popgrason on 14th Nov 2024

I absolutely love this knife. It's the perfect size and weight for EDC carry. I love the one-handed opening, and it's very sharp out of the box. Add to that the Heinnie Limited Edition Scales, and it's perfect.

    Great knife

Really well made knife, fitted good with no rattling parts. Quite sharp (till I make it surgical sharp ]:>). The only downfall to me is the fact I can’t move the clip to anywhere I want but I got used to Spydercos :p All in all t knife meeting uk edc restrictions ?

    Really nice daily carry

It’s a nice comfortable size for my pockets. Great feel in my hand, open or closed. Feel confident with the hold and no accidental shutting. Really nice knife ??

    It's okay, but nothing special

The thumb hole makes it relatively easy to open. That's the best thing going for this knife. Although getting the thumb into the hole can require a bit of awkward positioning. I find it's easier to use my middle finger instead. I love a front finger choil on non-locking knives, to help me guard against accidental closure of the blade. I also find they make it easier for me to close the blade. Unfortunately, this knife has no rounded corner at the front of the choil — it immediately transitions into the sharp cutting edge. What this means is that when holding the blade, the front part of my finger touches the cutting edge of the blade. It's especially bad when closing the knife, as the sharp corner closes in towards my finger. It hurts and cuts me. I can't stand when knives do this with their finger choils. Just smooth out the corner! The handle is okay. It's very grippy, but I find the texturing on it quite rough and uncomfortable. The pocket clip is semi-deep carry. It leaves a little bit of the handle still visible outside of the pocket. It also has "CRKT" branding on the pocket clip, which I very much dislike, and to some extent it defeats the purpose of having a deep-carry pocket clip as it's no longer stealthy. Overall I would say the Kizer Vagnino Zipslip Heinnie is better overall than this knife, but that one has the fatal flaw of being almost impossible to open, whereas this one can be easily opened thanks to the thumb hole.

Cracking little U.K legal slip joint

Posted by Brian Eagle on 2nd Jul 2024

This is an absolutely brilliant little U.K legal slip joint. Well made, burly and sharp right out of the box. If Heinnie made a premium steel blade and metal spacer version I’d buy a couple in heart beat!

    Handy EDC blade

Posted by Shaun S on 26th May 2024

I like the shape and feel of the knife in the hand. So far the opening and closing is quite firm, I'm hoping that beds in over time. But so far, I'm very happy with the quality and feel of this knife. The edge did need a little work as it had a small rough spot half way along the cutting edge.
