I've seen many negative reports about this knife.the one I received is perfect in every way.great ergos f&f no sharp edges cuts like a razor.my first italian made spyderco. I have a byrd tern from china that also can't fault it. Urban just class act get one before they sell out you won't regret it. Top service from hh as usual.
We're do l start excellent service from heinnie as usual, S90V brilliant blade steel scales have a lovely texture really work well with such a small knife plenty of grip, let down by fit and finish the back spring is not flush with the handle it sits about 1mm under at the front flush in the middle again 1mm under at the back, blade edge not sharp out of the box back of the blade has sharp edges not spydercos best work but l can get past the imperfections because the ergonomics of this little knife are perfect for a uk legal every day carry
As with others mine had spacing issues with the scales and the backspacer. The texture on the scales is so aggressive it will kill any thin trousers I wear. The edge was fine but not amazing. I won't return this Urban, but the K390 and the Elmax version of this were better quality and much more reasonably priced. If this were either significantly cheaper or had no manufacturing defects I would give it a higher score. But I cannot recommend this product, it is both the most expensive and most poorly made HH special edition I have ever bought.
This is my first Spyderco and HH special. On both fronts I’m very happy and impressed. Love the ‘spydii-hole’ one hand opening. The half stop is subtle on the open so doesn’t get stuck, but is stiffer on the close for safety that’s a nice touch. The back spring holds the blade open nicely without too much worry of closing and the thumb jimping and finger choil help in the safety and control. The handle is very nicely finished and nice and grippy. This will not be my last Spyderco or HH special Love it!
This is a nice size, with potentially good ergos and a useful little blade, made from a nice modern steel. However, the fit and finish on mine was pretty poor. The grind was uneven and not all that sharp, the jimping ragged, the stamping blurry. The backspring wasn't flush with the scales open or closed and was inconsistent along the length. The G10 scales seemed not to have been properly finished either on the edges or the faces. The action was the least smooth that I've ever seen on a Spyderco. Maybe I didn't get a good example. This was not the fit and finish of a £120 knife. Had this been half the price, I would have reprofiled the blade, polished the edge and sanded the scales and had a nice daily user. At this price though I'd expect something a lot better finished.
This knife is such a disappointment. I own a number of the original first generation of Spyderco UKPK knives, and they are fantastic knives. I bought this as an EDC to replace my Heinnie UKPK (also an excellent knife) in my EDC rotation as I have almost lost it twice, and wanted something a little smaller that I wouldn't be as upset if it went astray. The postage and packaging was as usual excellent from Heinnie. However, I was so disappointed when I opened the box and saw the knife, that I immediately put it in a drawer and forgot about it for a few days. The G10 is quite roughly textured, which many people have complained about, but I am okay with, as it enhances grip, and G10 usually wears smooth eventually with pocket wear, so that wasn't an issue for me. The backspring however was not flush, nor did it sit at a consistent depth below the scales, it was higher in some places than others. The knife opened okay, however the Spyderco-Hole is not finished very well, and is quite sharp. The blade is the biggest disappointment for me. The grind is absolutely and utterly appalling....uneven, rough, different bevels on each side, and with grinding suddenly going up the side of the knife blade near the choil. The knife would not cut a sheet of A4 paper, which for a "fresh out of the box" Spyderco is abysmal. This whole knife smacks of "we can rest on our laurels, we are such a big name that people will pay anything for it" It's like there was absolutely no Quality Control. This knife would have been very disappointing at £40, let alone well over £120. My Kizer Zipslip Vagnino costs fifty pounds less, and is a superb piece of kit, and a favourite in my EDC rotation, as is my Real Steel Luna. I could have bought three Lunas and had change left over for what the Heinnie Urban costs. Likewise the Boker XS Heinnie edition, a great knife for a very reasonable price. This knife has marked the end of my loyalty to Spyderco, and will be my last purchase from that company, they clearly are not what they were, which is very sad. I feel like I've been had.
I was super excited to see this concept pop up in the newsletter and immediately purchased. The fit and finish was very inconsistent and the grind very poor. Personally I didn't mind the scale texture - the letter with the knife explained the sound design decisions made re that. Even so, it's not a terrible knife, but it is just so poor in comparison to other spydercos, even much cheaper ones. I took this on the chin and decided to return it, hopefully for a replacement with a better example. What was disappointing was the response from Heinnie. They basically said that it had passed QC so my concerns were just my opinion. As such, I had to pay the returned signed for postage. They said they'd look into replacing it with a better example, but they just refunded it as soon as it arrived back with them. I'm guessing that means that the one I had was typical of the standard of all the others they had in stock.
Nice knife very sharp otb. The scales are a deep red and are quite rough giving a good grip. The action is very solid and firm. It's a very useful size for me . The blade steel is new to me so I will be very interested in how it performs. As usual great service from HH.
