Spyderco Ceramic Sharpening Stones

I bought all three Spyderco bench stones (medium, fine, ultra fine) from Heinnie. Great service, can't knock it. In terms of the stones; the ultra fine was very well finished and pretty much perfectly flat, the fine had rough edges and lipped slightly at the edges, and the medium was pretty dreadful - huge ridges at the sides which erase any bevel as soon as you've created it. Looking around online I think this is quite common. I bought a cheap diamond abrasive block (60 grit) and lapping stone (180) grit from amazon, ground down the edges and lapped the first two flat. Now, they're by far the best stones I've ever used - they cut well and barely load up at all if used wet, mirror edges with ease. In summary, definitely buy them, but be sure to lap them before you get going; it really pays dividends.

They had a medium grit one at college, it polished my chisels to a mirror edge that was shaving sharp with ease, only reason I didn't get one when I bought my stones was because I couldn't find them, if I buy any more I'll be getting one of these certainly. Although personally I would have preferred a thicker stone so it could be placed in a stand better, but the case grips decently on it's feet.

Had these stones before, they are the dogs! Unfortunately I lost them due to a break in so my father gave me the extra fine, I had the medium and fine before. I have now replaced with the fine stone as its really all you need for plane irons, chisels and knives. it produces a razor sharp edge very quickly. although they say wet stone on the box as Spyderco say you do not need anything on the stone, just use it dry, I always have. you cant wear the stone out in half a life time. Once you have owned one of these you can get rid of all your honing oil and stone boxes this is all you need. The extra fine gives a very polished edge to a sharp tool, it is so that it looks like polished chrome glinting, scary sharp but it takes time and not necessary for tool or knife sharp, just extreme. One thing people don't realise about softer stones is if it not flat your tool back will wear it off, these are so flat and hard that it is essential to spend some time flattening the back of your iron or chisel 1st, you will see when you do it where the tool has not touched the stone. It must be flattened on the back 1st so get the face flat.

Bought the fine version of this ceramic stone and wow it produces a crazy sharp edge. Easy to clean and easy to use, love it. Was torn between the fine and ultra fine and I am more than happy with the results of just the fine grade alone.

BOUGHT THIS STONE MAINLY FOR MY SPYDERCOS,OF WHICH I THINK IT SUITS BEST OF ALL,OBVIOUSLY WILL SORT OTHER KNIVES BUT AGAIN BETTER AT SPYDIES. QUITE HEAVY [NOT AN ISSUE UNLESS YOUR TAKING IT CAMPING OR LIKE] RUBBER FEET WORK WELL BUT THE WHOLE UNIT IS QUITE SLIM,SO DOESNT PROVIDE MUCH HAND ROOM SO I MOUNT MINE ON TOP OF THE LID [upside down]ON THE CARPET[on a towel] AND THAT SORTED THAT ..GOOD STONE,NICE CASE FOR STORAGE.

This Stone is awesome. Really puts a ultra sharp edge on your Knife and polishes it to perfection.
