The Ontario RAT series is right up there with the best of the best in utility knife design.

Beautifully balanced and now with a D2 carbon steel blade this will be your go to pocket knife for work, at home or out in the wilds. The RAT I is the bigger brother of the RAT II with a little more heft, designed for the larger hand for some seriously tough work.

The blade is unbelievably sharp out of the box and will not need sharpening as often as a standard stainless. The handle is FRN (Fibre Reinforced Nylon) with stainless liners and a precise linerlocking mechanism. There is a lanyard hole to personalise with your favourite lanyard and a black coated stainless pocket clip which is removable for tip up or tip down carry

    This is Rat 1

Posted by Aleksandrs on 3rd Apr 2023

If you need a knife to do the job. This is the right knife. Good value for money. The steel holds its edge very well. Easy to sharpen. At this price, I don't know what could be better. I hope that the 2023 model will be on sale soon. With red G10 and S35VN blade.

    Great knife, a real workhorse.

Amazing service from Heinnie, had a call from Marie to change couriers. The knife is lovely, very smooth opening & closing action. Very well put together, nothing feels loose at all. The blade is very nice and sharp, and comes with a thin coating of oil to protect the D2 blade.

    Ontario Rat 1 D2 Satin

Posted by Martin Atton on 8th Apr 2022

Another fine knife from Heinnie Haynes. Definitely a handful of sturdy cutting power. Excellent fit and finish and really great ergonomics. Smooth easy opening and closing. I chose the D2 version as it should stay sharp about twice as long as the AUS8 version. There should be no problem with corrosion as I look after all my knives properly. Sharpening will also be straightforward, in spite of D2s reputation. I have decades of experience using every type of sharpener and a DMT diamond sharpener will make short work of any loss of slicing ability. The full flat grind makes the knife an excellent slicer. My only minor gripe is that the cutting edge isn't quite as long as one would like for such a large knife. Definitely a lot of knife for the money. My S30V knives don't get enough sustained use to justify the extra price and miniscule difference in performance over D2. This knife will definitely get plenty of use in the woods and on the hills and as a great picnic tool. Just a pity I can't carry it around locally as an EDC. Great knife! Thanks!

    RAT 1 & 2

Posted by John Booth on 6th Apr 2021

Any one looking for 2 knives one as light EDC to slip in your pocket and a second for out door use, cooking, bushcraft etc with a budget of around 100 quid can't go wrong with theses two knives. The larger of the two the RAT 1 feels so good nice weight distribution sits in both hand and pocket well, the smaller knife just as good, light, unobtrusive, both D2 steel, good clip and scales, well put together.

    Great!!!

Budget, well made folder. This pocket knife is on a larger side of a pocket knives however not to big(except carrying in UK). Sharp out of the box, good pocket clip, decent steel- D2 in my case. Flipping open with one hand is no problem. Plastic scales are not bad, grippy enough. If I can point out any problems it will be blade. Grind is not even on both sides. Not much but visible. But it's £50 work knife, so nothing to be bothered about. It is my second one and it was worth it to pay extra for D2.
