Ontario RAT II

The Ontario Rat II is a fantastic little liner lock knife which has so many potential uses. It features decent AUS-8 stainless steel which is highly corrosion resistant and very easy to re-sharpen. Ontario have also fitted the knife with two thumb studs which are perfectly positioned for left of right single hand opening.

The linerlock mechanism on the Ontario RAT II is really smooth. It engages nicely and can be disengaged with no problem at all when required (the jimping on the liner really helps with disengaging the lock).

The handle on this version is black FRN (there are other versions with different colours available) and provides plenty of grip, no matter the conditions. The scales have also been nicely contoured which makes for really comfortable holding! The handle also includes a removable and adjustable pocket clip which can be placed in any of four positions on the handle depending on which carry position you prefer.

In summary you get a great quality knife for not a lot of money!

    Mostly great.

Posted by Rob Wade on 18th Apr 2022

Largely very happy with this. It has a great opening action and solid lock. Aus8 steel always seems good to me. It's slim in the pocket too. I like the fact that there are 4 clip positions, but the only gripe is that the torx screws they use must be unbelievably low grade. On arriving the screws were barely done up and when I changed the clip position and tightened them, it was impossible to even get them lightly tightened without them rounding out. This isn't my first rodeo; being a lefty I always have to change the clip. Seems a weird way to save a fraction of a penny. Otherwise a great knife.

Likely the best budget folding lock knife on the market.

I absolutely love this knife. I have had one for a good number of years now and it is going to be with me a good number more. First off, for a leftie, the movable clip and ambidextrous thumb studs are an instant bonus. The AUS 8 blade is fantastic, it's not shaving sharp... but this knife is £40. What the blade (and the rest of the knife) is however is utterly indestructible. I genuinely don't understand how it's this good for so little cost. The only reason I bought another knife (the Spyderco Squeak) is because of our lovely knife laws - but whenever I have a good enough reason, this is in my pocket or pack.

Ontario RAT 2 in Aus 8

Posted by Jon C on 10th Mar 2021

Great knife at a great price. Would totally recommend this knife and the fantastic service from Heinnie. There's a lot of stuff out there about Aus 8 and D2 steel and I really don't think you can go wrong with either of these options for this knife. Just comes down to your preference for more stainless, ease of sharpening (Aus 8) or better edge retention but somewhat harder to sharpen and a little less stainless (D2).

    Ontario rat 2

I know you see something like this on every review but HH possibly has the best service of any UK online retailer of knives or otherwise for that matter, ordered at around 1.30pm arrived next day at 9am with the free delivery, as for the knife it's self not much needs to be said as it's one of the most reviewed/tested/loved "budget folders" on the internet, came razor sharp out of the box and has an incredibly smooth action on opening and the liner lock feels really secure. Went for the Aus 8 version over the D2 mainly as it was slightly cheaper and can't say I'm disappointed, over all very impressed with both the service provided and product, not sure why I had never ordered from HH before but they're the only shop I'm using now haha

I have the D2 steel in carbon fibre version and it is my favourite knife to edc! This knife in any style is gonna be amazing, the grind is perfect, the blade shape is perfection. I have other knives, Benchmade, Mokki, Scharade ect, but this is constantly finding it's way into my pocket! The perfect edc knife.

    More knife then the money

Posted by Paulb on 19th Dec 2017

This is a great budget folder one I wouldn't care if I lost or got confiscated. The fit and finish is amazing for £40 I can't believe the ergos are so comfortable, one thing I would change is the blade steel maybe to VG10 or CTS BD1 I would happily pay a little extra. To date I have the following from H/H Spyderco para 3 Spyderco Delica 4 Spyderco squeak Spyderco Urban k390 Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Spyderco ambitious Ontario Rat 1 Ontario Rat 2 Every knife has always been delivered the next day. Amazing customer service. The only place I buy my knives. Guess which one gets all pocket time and daylight

    Untouchable

Posted by JT on 2nd Feb 2017

Been used for two years through Military training. It's just an incredible knife for that money. It's had everything thrown at it and it's in as good shape as ever. Dulls fairly quickly, but always have a sharpener to hand so no issues with that really. It has a good weight to it, with a plush grip and very strong locking system. Opening one handed is extremely easy also, much easier than any other brand. Highly Recommend.
