heavy duty folder excellent knife
Marbles does this jumbo trapper; this is a bit like a jumbo copperhead (see Rough Rider copperhead for an example of that traditional pattern). Massive knife, non-locking but with a very solid backspring and two very useable blades. Mine came sharp out of the box and with a very good built for the Marbles price point. My only negative points (hence the 4 stars)are: (1) despite being a slipjoint, it cannot be carried without a valid reason as the blades are about 4" each; (2) when the clip point blade is not used, it is sticking out the handle a lot and digging a fair bit in the palm, so grip is not that comfortable. When the clip point blade is used and the other folded, than that's OK.
I spent a while weighing up which case knife to buy and decided on the folding hunter which in old jigged bone is at least £110 in the UK. Before ordering I saw this at a quarter of the price and thought I would give it a go. The quality may not impress some collectors as there were 2 tiny flaws , the jigging was a bit sharp around the shield and there was a tiny scratch on the fillet blade but I’m not a collector. those would go unnoticed by most and you would struggle to find anything else to complain about. This is a great looking knife and very practical for outdoor, camping, fishing, hunting, archery or shooting. Its size means the handle is reasonably comfortable which is rare in a folding knife and the blades come shaving sharp with no snags. Cant speak About edge retention or toughness of the steel as I haven’t used it enough so far but there is negligible difference between 440a and Case cutlery’s 420HC equivalent “tru sharp” and as all knives eventually need sharpening anyway it makes very little difference. If you’re looking for a large tough practical slip joint knife you will not get more than this for your money
I can highly recommend this folding hunter knife. The build quality is excellent and at less than £23 is around a third of the cost I paid for my Case folding hunter. It looks and feels comparable quality. It's a nice hefty handful and although I haven't used it yet, I'm really looking forward to doing so.
