The first one i ordered had unevenly ground apex and problem with the tip but I replaced it and it’s spot on. Good ergonomics of the handle and obviously it’s mini srk so have to be good??
I love this knife. The whole package is really great. Fit and finish is perfect, sheath retention is ideal and the belt loop very generous, the handle is fantastically grippy and comfortable. Reviewers have complained its smaller the the SRK handle, but it feels ideal in my grip (i've smallish hands tho!) and the balance, mobility is spot on. The blade is a really handy shape and size and came razor sharp out the box. I've yet to see how the holds the carbon steel holds an edge, not great i imagine, but it'll be easy enough to touch back up. Very pleased with the purchase and i'm keen to check out the SRK big brother now. Incredibly quick delivery from Uncle Heinnie of course. Thanks team! :-)
The Cold Steel SRK Compact is an excellent camping knife, not intended for prizing logs apart, but will do anything and everything that is required for a camping trip, from splitting sticks into kindling, making fuzz sticks, shaping a tent peg, cutting rope and string to skinning and filleting game and preparing food. It is not stainless, but cleaning and drying the blade (as you would) after using it will keep it from rusting. I wouldn't oil the blade unless you like your food tasting of oil, as some of the oil will stick on the excellent sheath, and get back on the knife every time you put it back into the sheath. There is a black coating on the blade to help it to stay stain and rust free. The blade comes sharp and with a needle point, but a few strokes on a razor strop had it popping hair off my arm. All in all, and excellent tool, and one that is light and easy to carry, so you won't notice it until you need it.
Excellent knife , very solid 4mm thick razor sharp and perfectly beveled edge . The non reflective coating is done very well and as quite a collector and user of my knives am looking forward to putting it through the usual tests . As for Cold Steel its one of the best (budget) blades they do . H.H as usual had it at my door in very quick order . A good buy .
I may or may not indulge in some uk wild camping now and again, so I hypothetically couldn't take an axe with me due to it's size and risk of being seen with one strapped to my bag. Thats where this knife would come in. I have used this thing to baton through horrid knotty wood, I mean I've really beat on it, to the point where I've thought to myself "yeah I've definitely ruined the edge on this". Nope, when it got through it was as still as sharp as anything, I was amazed. If you want something that looks good, buy something else, if you want a knife that gets the job done, buy the cold steel SRK C. I will just add, I convexed the edge on it, so that could have played a part in how indestructible it is.
Awesome knife for the money, I've beat on it like nobody's business and it's stood up to everything I've given it. Holds a good edge, batons well, shaves feathers well, really happy.
Had this knife, and it's good. traded it for the the full size SRK & what difference. both versions are good but for me the full size works better. what ever your choice, both versions are good.
I've had this nearly a year now, used it every weekend for camping, fish and pigeon processing, and all round camp tasks. Buck 110 is better for processing, Esse 6 better for shelter building. But as an all round beginner bushcraft knife that is capable of doing everything, this is the budget knife to beat.
