A good quality blade for the price
Photo is very deceitful the handle is way too short and tapered towards the bottom if want to buy an ornamental piece to build by all means this product is for you put a nice handle on it and boom bobs your uncle if you are interested in a more practical knife try one of their other sizes when they are eventually in stock
Handle is FAR too short to be built as a full tang, it's on the narrow side but not too bad. Blade steel is hard enough to be sharpened decently and it seems to hold an edge well enough. The blade etches with ferric chloride so i'd say it isn't a true stainless blade and leans more towards a carbon steel. Overall, it's a decent project blade. The tang will need some creativity to make work but besides that, you're golden.
It is true that the tang is neither one thing or the other but you can easily grind it down for a hidden tang or do what I did & make a box frame handle to enlarge it up. The guard is decent & makes this a Bowie type design. Don't let the tang put you off - it's a good item - & it's worth noting that old style Western Bowies often Did have small, skinny handles - folks Were smaller in 1835!
The blade arrived in super quick time, packaging was excellent. The blade itself was just what I expected but far outstripped the cost. An idea maybe to add links to appropriate fittings and sheaths , scales for the blade . Great GreT service will use again.
After my initial review, I held the blade to find the tang was of a size that was so small my wife found it difficult to hold. It needs at least another 25-30mm and more . This can be ground down. I have now got to work out how to make this blade a comfortable fit. PLEASE CHECK HANDLE SIZES!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm as many have said you pay for what you get with these. Not the best looking steel but lets be honest stainless never keeps an edge like steel. Good for the inexperienced knife maker wanting to have a go. I bought this thinking full tang... drill the holes out, cut and epoxy some scales add the pins and then shape, jobs a good one but... the handle area after the bolster is neither one style of blade nor another. It is slightly too small in length and width to just add scales and it is way too wide for wood, leather, brass or bone style stacking and peening. Going to use birch wood with a few black corean and red perspex spacers using the socket method like when you use antler.
