Impressed? It's not the blades' job to impress You; it's Your job to do something impressive with the blade! I got a second one of these & made the handle lighter by drilling out the holes, grinding down the steel & doing oversized filework all round the tang to complement the rugged grooves in the spine. I used a piece of Rough Rider Pakkawood for the scales with Aluminium pins to keep it light. I polished the blade to a satin sheen & made a sheath from some recycled green furniture leather with a rubber safety lining. I made a conche with a big, faux topaz birthstone in the middle & presented it to my wife. She loves it & uses it in the garden & her small craft shed. It cuts twine, saplings, cane - loads of things! Don't just stick any old bit of wood on these blanks - put real effort into them & maybe give them as presents. You might make someone an heirloom!
Not impressed
This is a good little blade for only £8. It would make a good Boot or Neck knife. The handle is a bit heavy for such a slim blade but you can reduce it or use lightweight scale material. Worth a go.
I am overall impressed and happy with this product. I could see others giving a 4 star review and i'd say that would also be fair. This product is impressive for the price. The blade is finished well and to a good polish. Not razor sharp but it has an edge. The handle area is rough. Has edges that are sharp and is uneven but its for knife making so some work is to be expected. The guard is very securely on and wont come off on you. Overall its a rough blank that needs finishing, polishing and sharpening... but that's the point of the product! I am sure if you have a bench grinder or dremel or a file and feel comfortable making handle scales you'll love this blank.
