One of Benchmade's quintessential folding knives and a really popular model. The Benchmade 940 Osborne features the AXIS locking mechanism which is one of the safest on the market. The blade is a reverse tanto style with ambidextrous thumb studs and is CPM S30V stainless steel. The handle is a very attractive combination of anodized 6061 T6 aluminium, stainless steel liners and coloured anodized Titanium backspacer.

    Osbourn 940

Posted by Bruce Bello on 24th Jul 2021

I waited a long time for this knife, I lived in the Pacific Northwest and my family had Benchmade knives for years, so for a retirement memento I ordered a 940 from HH, one of my favourite retailer’s, anyway once I received the knife I was disappointed with the care and attention given to the assembly and returned the knife. I had heard that Benchmade was not producing the quality they were once famous for but was still surprised when I opened the box, don’t get me wrong, most of the components were excellent, it was just the assembly that was substandard. I will not be ordering again. I also want to say HH was very supportive and I highly recommended them to you.

    940 Osborne

This knife is the best EDC all round knife out there. It is light, compact, unobtrusive and versatile. The blade is robust with a good working grind angle therefore no need to be concerned about edge chipping or breaking off the tip in rigorous use.The knife is easy to sharpen using a good quality stone and strop. There is a very good 10 year review of this knife on You Tube well worth watching if you are thinking of buying one. The price is representative the back up from Benchmade is very good and as usual HH provide an excellent service.

    Great knife.

Loads of people have done reviews on this knife, so all I'm going to say is that it's a expensive knife but a brilliant knife, benchmade has a brilliant warranty and if you ask benchmade for a deep carry pocket clip they will send you one or even a few for free.

This is absolutely all they say it is!

What a great little thing this is! Perfect in almost every way. The only, very minor quibble is that it's not as sharp as it could be. But, even out of the box, the action and Axis lock are brilliant. It's small and light, but packs a lot of blade for its overall size. I could go on ad nausem, buts it's all been said before. What's not so good? Our knife laws! This couldn't be more people friendly and innocuous, but it's 0.4 too long and has, God forbid, a lock! Oh well at least it will last longer, just sitting on a shelf!

    Good all rounder

Like most people today I read the reviews and watched the utube reviews and thought is it really all that. Yes it is pricey but let's face it isn't everything we buy in the UK. Firstly you get your new 940 , open the box and think well it's green' it feels funny - but in a good way - like it belongs in your hand. You carry it for a few days and it then does start to belong you. You start looking for tasks to do . The handle starts to smooth in and the action is even better than new. It becomes she' not it' which is why users love this knife. Every one has her tale to tell. Her story develops with the usage marks to handle and blade. This is one of the best in its class of knife : light, multi tasking , cut holds an edge, undoes the odd screw, opens boxes letters banding tape seat belts and anything else we may use every day.

    Excelent design

Posted by Jaydee on 30th Oct 2016

This is a lovely tool. I'm going to start this review with the two things I don't like about this knife (as everything else I have to say is positive). Both negative points concern the handle... 1. When the knife arrives new, the factory finish of the handle is a kind of texturing (probably for additional grip on the aluminium scales). I found it felt like velvet... which I loath the feel of). I hated the feeling of the handle so much, I nearly returned the knife. Ha. This grip is solvable though. I resolved the issue by just rubbing my fingers into the surface of the handle. After a while, the texture changed from velvet feeling to satin. I love how it feels now! Talk about opposites! 2. The handle is aluminium that has a surface treatment making it green.... this will scuff and show scratches quite easily if you are careless with it... I'm careful, but I've still managed to get a few. It's not a big problem... but it's the only real issue with this knife other than the price! (The green finish is lovely though, goes well with the purple back spacer... my only complaint here is cosmetic durability!). <Good stuff now> The Warren Osborn designed reverse Tanto, is a cool looking blade. It's very strong, the S30V steel is very good. I love how long the blade is despite the overall compactness of the knife. The AXIS lock system is brilliant. Super quick to deploy, and close. Super smooth. Extremely strong. When it's opened it feels as reliable as a fixed blade. I've had no issues with the omega springs... Pocket clip does it's job well. Not too stiff, not too loose, just right. Knife rides low in your pocket, but is very comfortable to extract. The 3 screws that hold the pocket clip on are very easy to grasp and pull from. The knife is very strong, and very light. I think this an almost perfect folding knife in my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to you.
