    Victorinox Alox X Silver

Posted by Rob Connolly on 24th May 2024

Exceptional. The only urban multi-tool you’ll need. Classic Swiss engineering is honed to perfection in this beauty. Razor sharp with rock solid locks, it’s a very pocketable EDC. There’s plenty of heft too as this is clearly a working knife. Love the blade, scissors and drive reamer, when you add the Silver Alox scales….ahh, it’s awesome. Thanks Heinnie...shipped same day - in my pocket next!

Lovely Swiss Army knife. Feels quality with the alox aluminium scales. All the main tools I needed. Nice heft in hand. Ideal gift

    Pioneer X

Posted by Lee on 6th Dec 2022

I am a real fan of Victorinox knives, and own many, but all the ones I owned previously were the cellidor scales. I'd resisted getting an Alox simply because I do find the tweezers and tooth pick useful which you don't get on the Alox models. I finally decided to get an Alox, and purchased the Pioneer X and I'm very happy that I did. This is a superb knife, beautifully engineered and looks and feels fantastic. I am a big fan of Victorinox scissors, they are well engineered, perform great and I find them extremely useful in and EDC knife, the addition of the scissors to the Pioneer is most welcome. Compared to my cellidor SAKs, the tools on this Pioneer are thicker, more solid and robust, and the slip joints feel stronger, this knife feels rock solid and sturdy. When you combine that with the quality and the fact that it looks and feels fantastic, you have a combination that's hard to beat. This is a great knife, I can't find any fault with it, thoroughly recommend.

    Perfect for the urban adventurer

I own a load of SAKs. This is a great, compact and solid tool. The addition of the scissors makes the original pioneer even more useful. If your bag is the wild then consider the Farmer X with the same tool set as the pioneer but with the addition a wood saw.

    Pioneer X

This is my forth victorinox pioneer x that i have purchased, two from HH the others from that large online super market who specialises in nothing ? The pioneer x is i think one of two best models from Victorinox ever , the other is the soldier/pioneer that this is evolved from ! That is the one i have carried for most of my life . The addition of scissors is very welcome and took about fifty years for Victorinox to catch on to ! The scissors do come at a price ,two prices infact ? One being the severe cost difference the other is the heft , only 4mm but its really noticeable in the pocket ! Victorinox have an undisputed reputation for mass production quality in their knives , multitools but i am alittle concerned on these last two purchases made as there is very slight main blade play ! With any other manufacturers of mass production you may accept that as the norn but we are talking abot Victorinox here ? I have never had this issue with any knife from them in the past , but pioneer x and indeed one of the farmer x models has it ! Now i dont want you to be put off buying the knife as its still built like a brick s*** house and its not going to come apart on you plus the warranty is awesome and for ever ! The rivet construction is classic and im sure its just the machine has not quite been set tight enough on this run ? The overall quality of the Victorinox knife is still fantastic with snap on all blades that would make some other knife makers weep in mass production ? The only other question is to ask yourself is( now do i need scissors or not ) On a final point i would like to see Heinne Haynes have an exclusive run of the standard pioneer in Heinne red without the keyring as like the original soldier/ pioneer knife ! Im sure Victorinox would like to here from you HH ? To some up, this pioneer x is outstanding for edc and at just under £40 is true bang for your buck !

    Victorinox pioneer x

Posted by Michael Lowe on 29th Dec 2020

I have carried the pioneer for four decades on a daily basis and often thought about a pair of scissors and what if . Well a few years ago Victorinox finally did give us the pioneer X same old familiar pioneer with those long long long awaited scissors that are so good from the king of the pocket knife ! I must be honest i have not used them anywhere near as much as i thought i would though ! The major annoyance for me is the nail nick is on the wrong side ? Well compared to all other models in the officier range that is , victorinox have used scissors from their 111mm range that i may add are no bigger and ive even contacted them to try and get an answer about it ! They came back to me and said quote ( we wanted all the nail nicks on the same side for user convenience) well they never bothered will any of the others they make ? The pioneer x is a nice knife , a nice model if you like me love the original pioneer model or if your a fan of the climber but want something even sturdier? This model at the time of writing is only sold in silver alox as standard and has been quickly followed by the farmer x another nice knife if you want a saw ? I have dropped a star not for the said nail nick but my version this time has a little blade play side to side ! This is really a supprise as i have never had an alox model with this issue ! Its not a major concern because of the out standing warranty from Victorinox, but it is i hope not the start of yet another famous brand going down hill ? Service from HH was again red hot even over this Christmas break and i must mention Royal mail was of equal par too ! All in all a highly recommended swiss army knife but check those blades ? Never thought I'd have to say that !

Not as good as it should be ?

Posted by Mike on 30th Apr 2020

Victorinox pioneer has been available from 1957 ! The swiss army used it from 1961 as the soldier until 2007/8 Pioneer was called the sturdy boy way back then and it is just so ! I have had an early model for decades and it is I think the best pocket tool Victorinox offers ? Even now ! So in 2017 I believe the pioneer X was offered , the model here with scissors that so ,so many wanted ? My self included ! Well the knife obviously puts on weight, a lot of weight in fact ,it also gains a layer The scissors are taken from the large 111mm models ,Not that they are any bigger than the 91mm models but the nail knick is on the other side , and that's the bug bare ! I can't really understand the need to do that ,and find it really annoying too ! In terms of quality the knife is very good as one expects from the king of the pocket knife makers but , the mould for the alox scales is showing it's age now as when you view them from the edges the edge line is all wavy and uneven , the finish is also a bit rough where the oxidized coating has flaked off , a shame as the alox scales are otherwise very smart ! These knives are hard use models and are built like a tank even though a slip joint they have great spring tension and uk friendly Great service from HH as always

    Well used knife

Posted by Mitchell on 7th May 2019

I brought this 2 years ago from this site purely because I wanted to own a SAK, it looked cool and that was really it. Fast forward a year and a half and I ended up joining the army and it's the one knife I've used consistently, I want to upgrade eventually but I really just can't find the right knife at the moment, and owning this useful tool prevents me spending money on an upgrade. I'll stick to this for a long time I wouldn't mind getting black scales for it though, and eventually when I've got the cash saved I'll phase it out for a leatherman wave, and a fixed blade. I would not say no to this knife it's UK legal, light and has plenty of useful tools, looks great and has really proved it's use to me. I am confident it will prove its worth to you also.
