Description

This is Spyderco's famous UK Penknife (UKPK) with FRN handles and a drop point balde with a flat grind.

We want variety!" It's an often heard sentiment from knife customers and is why Spyderco offers several bestsellers with different handle options. Knife nuts wanting the lightest- weight folders available, gravitate to FRN or fiberglass reinforced nylon handles. Ultra- light FRN is warp resistant, shuns chemicals, and isn't affected by temperature extremes.

Spyderco's non-locking, one-hand open, clip carry folders are called SLIPITS. Starting in 2004, Spyderco launched a folding knife model called the UK Penknife, targeted for carry in the United Kingdom. As the SLIPIT concept gains momentum Spyderco keeps expanding the line with folders in varying sizes, steels and handles. Newly added are Lightweight SLIPITS.

Lightweight UK Penknife blades are held open by a notched-joint at the knife's pivot. When closing the blade the notch produces resistance functionally similar to traditional slip-joint penknives. Heightening control and comfort, Spyderco designers added a deep finger choil positioning the index finger on the bottom of the blade directly under the thumb. This lets you choke up near the cutting edge with comfort and dexterity. A tension-wire clip carries the folder deeply in a pocket, tip-up and ambidextrously.

This version has a CTS BD1N blade steel and black FRN handle.

Perfect EDC and all round great knife!

Posted by Ben on 18th Jul 2015

I bought this for the obvious reason that it was designed to be legal to carry in the UK and was not disappointed. It's lightweight and solid as anything, holds its edge well and is pretty easy to sharpen. It's just a fantastic knife and a joy to use I carry it everyday without issue and hardly feel it in my pocket and it's always there when I need it.

    Top notch

Have had this knofe for just over 6 months now and i love it. Good blade material. Holds its edge and sharpens brilliantly. The handles are also pretty damn durable. Been in the rain and dirt a fare bit and still no damage and cleans up quite easily with warm water and lemon juice. Some dont like the handles but if thats a problem, Cuscada do some awesome G10 scales for about 45 shipped so not to bad.

    My first spyderco

Posted by Andygale on 5th Apr 2015

When I first got this knife, I was a little disappointed. I thought it felt like a toy. Very light and the fun handles feel like cheap plastic. After using it for 6 months, I absolutely love it. It is so comfortable in hand, very well built, the blade is sharp and has good edge retention and I know favour the lightness of it. I've bought several other uk legal folders since the ukpk, but always go straight for this one. Now looking for my next spyderco knife.

    The Best

    Posted by G on 3rd Feb 2015

Quite simply the best. I have used this every day for the past 6 months or so and it has taken a real battering but is still as strong as ever. The blade takes a razors edge with little effort and keeps it. It is so light weight you will hardly notice it in your pocket. It's probably one of the most comfortable knives I've held and has a very grippy handle and contrary to what some think, the handle scales are strong (I had a pallet at work fall on it just a few days ago and it didn't feel a thing!). I prefer the drop-point blade over the leaf personally as it does seem more precise (but maybe that is just a placebo) and it is slightly smaller, with the same cutting edge. If you want something that is UK legal, razor sharp and is going to take a battering every day, this is probably the best you can get, in my humble opinion.

    Great EDC

Really high quality blade. If you're in two minds over pulling the trigger on this knife as you've heard the handle feels some what cheap , I can assure you they are very durable, to be honest if someone told me they were g-10 and I didn't know better I would think they were a very highly quality g-10 , other than the fact the logo is moulded in and It's not made from layers it looks and feels like g-10. I really don't see FRN as a down grade and from what I can gather they both have very similar compositions. G-10 is made from resin and layers of woven glass fibers, FRN is made from nylon with glass fibres randomly (but evenly ) distributed throughout it. The only difference is FRN can be quickly and cheaply molded where as G-10 has to be machined. The knife is very comfortable in hand and is ultra lite weight (46.5g). the only changes I would like to make would be to blacken the pocket clip so it blend in with dark jeans, and I would like to see a better blade steel used maybe VG-10 or ZDP189. A few colour variations would also be a nice addition. The reason it only gets 4/5 is the fact that the value for money isn't excellent for the money I would like a vg-10 blade as bd1 runs on the soft side.

Modern equivalent of a Gent's folder.

Posted by Robbie on 28th Nov 2014

Been wanting one of these for quite some time now, mostly due to people talking about how good it is on forums and the like. When it turned up I was more than pleased to see it in the flesh. Really nicely made, hardly any weight when it's in your pocket, also comes with a strong pocket clip that is very inconspicuous. Steel is nice and easy to sharpen, and has excellent edge retention, I've only sharpened it once, out the box. Only bad point on this knife is the handle scales, they're guff. They feel very flimsy even though I know they're not. So I had a set of custom Micarta scales made for me by Custom Scale Division. Now it feels like a work of art in the hand. All in all, 5/5, same goes for Heinnie's delivery service. Absolutely outstanding!

    Well worth the money

Posted by Darren I on 14th Sep 2014

Really lightweight, sturdy, great construction. Easy to open & close with one hand, and there's really not much chance of the blade closing on your finger. It handles well, and I find it actually fits the right hand better if you move the clip to the left-hand scale, which is easy enough to do, as long as you've got a torx driver. Finally, I'd say the blade profile is better than the leaf shape, as the knife takes up a little less room when closed, and it seems a bit more precise when cutting.

    new EDC

The product is excellent the blade takes a hair splitting edge and better yet holds it remarkable well . The frn handle comes a little rough straight out the box but after about 2 days of carrying it and will provide a perfect gripping surface with hands or gloves. Not only is the product 10 out of 10 but HH themselves provide an excellent service. I had some issues with the my delivery address and with just a phone call they sorted everything out for me.
