Spyderco's Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is perhaps the ultimate knifesharpener. It includes two sets of high Alumina Ceramic stones: A pair of medium grit (dark) stones for aggressive sharpening, and a pair of fine stones (white) for professional grade finishing. There is also a set of brass safety rods to protect the user's hand during sharpening.
For sharpening plain edges, the flat sides of the stones are ideal. For serrated edges use the corners.
The stones fit into keyed holes and slots moulded into the polymer base and have a 40 degree and 30 degree sharpening angle for knives and a 12.5 degree scissor setting.
A groove running the length of the stone is for sharpening pointed objects like darts, awls and fishhooks.
All components pack into the base and the lid snaps shut making the 204 self contained and small enough to carry in your shirt pocket.
No lubrication is required during use for dry, mess-free sharpening.
Includes instruction DVD and book.
This set is listed by Spyderco as "204MF".

I've had this a week or so now and it's able to sharpen a Cold Steel Bushman enough to shave the hairs off my arm, which for a total amateur when it comes to sharpening, is impressive. I've used it on about 8 different knives and steel types and it's so easy to use. You do notice the difference when you clean the stones and to do that I just use spit on a hanky and it seems to work fine rubbing off all the steel powder. I was lucky enough to see it demonstrated by Nick in the showroom which convinced me enough to get it and you should too if you want to take the guesswork out of sharpening anything from knives to scissors to nail clippers and the way it brought back my 10 yr old Spyderco serrated edge back to razor sharp was astonishing in just a couple of minutes.
I have been using various sharpening systems to keep my steel sharp and have finally found a system that is foolproof, easy to use and gives a wicked edge. Spyderco have stuck to the tested principle of having the user hold the knife vertical and slicing it down a rod which is positioned in an angled holder. Quite simply, it is way easier to keep a consistent angle, so, after very little practice you can bring your knives to a wicked level of sharp. The medium rods are used first and give you a working edge at the correct angle, the fine rods come into play then and put the finishing touch to the edge. Very, very nice bit of kit, well thought out. The only selling point you need is that this is a bit of kit that actually works!
This sharpening system is great. Compact, well thought out and easy to use. 20 strokes on each stone makes a dull edge hair popping sharp. As noted below dvd is cheese but worth watching for the perfect technique. Delivery very quick as always. thanks
Again great service from Hennie with delivery next day. Thanks. In relation to the Sharpmaker I have spent the last 2 days sharpening everything in my house that holds an edge, it really is a great bit of kit. Most impressed with the edge it put on my Spyderco Harpy. I used this knife every day for nearly a year cutting various things like boxes etc, and it had lost it's edge BIG time. I was skeptical about the Sharpmakers ability to sharpen a serrated hawkbill blade but after 5 minutes work on the 'maker it was like a razor again. HIGHLY HIGHLY recomended, and that's after owning a number of different sharpeners over the years including a far more expensive diamond encrusted traditional steel. Many thanks once again.
compact good quality i use wet and dry sandpaper to remove glase from rods keep them clean. tip that i use if the knife you want to sharpen has a bad bevel i lie a corse hand stone on the sharpmaker rod alternate sides till i get a true bevel then go through the steps 1 to 4 with sharpmaker tested for hair popin sharpness on arm omg buy one now fantastic
Well thought out bit of essential kit, DVD is very informative and well worth watching if a bit cheesy. A pleasure to use and does what it promises.
