Spyderco Delica 4 Foliage Green

Based on the background green found in the U.S. Army's Digital Camo, the military foliage green Endura and Delica are designed for both military and civilians. The color is a shade-shifting mix of gray and green that effectively disappears into its surroundings. Spyderco offers this new handle color option on the revamped Delica4 and Endura4. Both models now have screw construction making cleaning and adjusting easier.

Their fiberglass reinforced nylon handles come molded with Bi-Directional Texturing™ for traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners make the knife stronger without adding weight and create an anchor that external and internal components attach through, adding more sturdiness and rigidity.

Their VG-10 blades are flat saber-ground with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade's spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip.

    Brill

Love Delica 4s in any variation and have written about them on here in other reviews. So this is really about the supposedly shade-shifting foliage green colour of the scales. Well, I have a plain grey one (favourite all round knife ever by the way) and to my eyes that already is an interesting green-ish grey in some light conditions. I actually thought my plain grey one was the foliage green one because of this. I was wrong, it's just pain grey, so I bought this to compare. So - the foliage green is a different shade than the grey one and I do like it and think it's interesting BUT does it really have any extra special shade shifting abilities compared to the plain grey one? Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. I can't really tell but I like them both and both shades are quite subtle and interesting and can blend in. OK, maybe that's not important to you so how about the rest of it? Not everybody's cup of tea but in my opinion serrations have a real use when it comes to tough fibrous material like rope, hemp and other such stuff, so serrations definitely have their place and in this knife you've got the best of both worlds. In my opinion Delica 4s in any configuration are brilliant bits of kit and this is no exception.

    Great knife

Posted by Chris on 20th Feb 2016

I have carried and used the fully serrated version of this knife for work for the last four years. I like it because the serrated edge is perfect for cutting through plastic packaging and banding straps with ease. The blade retains its' edge well, maybe not quite as well as some reviews on youtube suggest, but to be fair it does a lot of cutting before it needs re-sharpening. Don't be put off by the serrated edge, it's easy to sharpen with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. The knife is really easy to open and close one handed. The pocket clip works well with jeans, it has caught and bent a few times, however it's easy enough to straighten by hand if you remove the three clip screws. Mine has been through the washing machine and tumble-drier a few times without causing any problems or rust. For me this knife is a good quality, reliable tool that I can't really fault, it's not the cheapest but is good value for money. If I lost it I'd buy another.

    Am I missing something?

Posted by Kris Brugts on 19th Apr 2013

On the whole, disappointed. Blade is sharp out of the box (but could be better) and strong ??but looks cheap. Grip is great and sits nicely in the hand. Lock it is firm, but basic. Main problem I have is the first time I used it and hooked the clip onto a pocket it bent and twisted ? may as well be made of aluminium. Plus within two weeks three screws had dropped out (two from the clip and one from the frame) rendering the whole knife practically useless. You'd have to hope Spyderco's more expensive models were better quality ? as far as this level of knife goes, great if you just want to have as a display model, but if you want to use it, get something cheaper so if it does 'break' you won't feel agrieved replacing. Gets a 3 only because of the material quality, should get a 1 or 2 for build. Last Spyderco I'll buy.

    That's me converted!

I was recommended a Spyderco by a good friend in the military, but I was convinced I would like the plastic handle - that it would somehow seem cheap and feel uncomfortable. How wrong I was! This is an awesome knife and perfect for some of my needs. Light and compact to carry, it's great to have on hand for all smaller work. Very happy and pleasantly surprised with this one!
