The Rough Rider Classic Carbon Series features carbon steel blades, yellow composition handles, “Slant R” nickel silver bolsters and a special Classic Carbon shield. Most blades have half stops and feature match strike pulls. You'll struggle get a more traditional, quality penknife at such a bargain price. The Rough Rider Swayback features three non-locking blades all under three inches long, so the knife is UK friendly carry. Great for your pack or pocket for all those day to day jobs in the office or out in the sticks.

    Rough Rider Classic Carbon Swayback

Posted by Samuel Milligan on 9th Jun 2021

A really iconic looking knife, all blades have strong pulls, good half stops and good blade alignment, it has a beautiful Wharncliff blade and two nice pen blades No issues, very fast dispatch and delivery...24hours

    Great little knife!

Posted by David M on 17th Apr 2019

Was a bit dubious about this based on other reviews, but wanted it for whittling as has Wharncliffe main blade and 2 smaller detail blades. I'm very happy with quality of knife overall - especially for the price. Feels nice in the hand and manufacturing/finish is great. I've got no problem with strength of springs for example. Blade steel is T10 which seems to be good enough for sword-making if you read around! I have reground the blade to change factory bevel so that it actually works for whittling and now is nice to use. Easy enough to do by hand on a stone. Blades take a good edge although don't know yet how long they will keep it for - time will tell. The small blades are both the same size - but good out in the field. If one loses sharpness you have another to carry on with! Overall all very happy wit this knife and using it regularly for whittling and comfortable enough in the hand. Great value I think - I like it!

This one gets the thumb down!!

Posted by R¼diger on 22nd Mar 2019

Very disappointing for a Rough Rider. I've got many of them and all are good to excellent! All but this one that is. This is riding extremely hard at the limit of what one should accept, even with a knife in this price range. Points 2,3 and 4 of Ali's review are exactly the same with my knife. In addition I have a stained/tarnished main blade (NO, I don't think it 's a nice patina in the making!) and a pin is breaking throug the backside scale at the spine of the knife. An attempt to at least grind it flush was obviously abandoned midway. My main gripe is though: If it says carbon on the box, there should be carbon in the box!!! Swanky new box it is though, I have to say but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the deficiencies in the knife. If it wasn't all the way from Germany, I'd send it back for sure!

    Rough Rider - variable

Posted by Ali on 17th Mar 2019

I don't like to leave a bad review as service from this company is exceptional. I have a RR Coal miner which is excellent. A RR canoe which is just o.k. - back springs are very weak which kinda spoils the knife. I bought this one as it is similar in design to a 60 year old James Barber knife given to me by my grandfather which i do not want to loose. Side by side the quality of the Rough Rider is nowhere near that of the Barber. Main points:- 1. The back of the main blade has a wrinkle. 2. You can see also on the back of the main blade where the words "440 razor sharp steel" has been etched and an attempt has been made to polish these words off !!!! 3. This is meant to be a carbon steel bladed knife - it doesn't look, feel, smell or taste like carbon steel (if you know carbon steel you'll know what i'm talking about). Point 2. also goes towards confirming this. 4. Small pen blades are off line and have scratched the main blade ( it was like this when it arrived). 5. Small pen blades are extremely light and flimsy. Maybe this is ok and im too fussy - i don't know I returned this one for a refund which arrived promptly.

    Love it

Posted by John on 1st Feb 2019

Got my sway back style (handle shape large and curved at one end than the other) this morning and am mighty impressed by the quality for the price Wharnclife blade will be perfect for whittling. This will be my go to dog walking blade for those impromtue whittling momnets that happen when you come across a peach of a bit of wood. Thank you HH

    Wharncliffe Whittler

That pattern is not a Swayback, it's a Wharncliffe Whittler.
