Description

The Rough Rider Cattleman is a substantial knife with a good sized handle perfect for the knife user with larger hands. Despite its size both blades have a cutting edge under three inches so the knife is classed as UK friendly carry.

The large clip point and the small pen blade are both made from carbon steel and are non-locking. It is a handsome looking knife from the Rough Rider Cinnamon series with tough bone stag handle scales.

    Rough Ryder Cattleman cinnamon folder

Posted by Martin Atton on 30th Dec 2025

similar knives to this Rough Ryder, would no doubt be found in the pockets of ranchers and the like in 1890. Traditional! Carbon steel blades, brass liners and nickel silver bolsters. I imagine jigged bone was also around in the late nineteenth century? This is about as big and beefy a knife as can be carried openly in the UK these days. Much of the knife's appeal is the fact that it fills my large hand and is extremely comfortable in use. It certainly is a handsome beast and the jigged bone is a joy to behold. As an owner of many modern high tech blades in exotic steels such as M390, I fancied a good hunk of carbon steel to play with. So easy to sharpen and maintain without having to turn to diamond sharpeners and the like. I have always loved the way carbon steel takes a really aggressive edge and can be brought back to razor sharpness in no time. I can't see me taking it on winter trips to Scotland as the continuous wet weather will do the pivots no good at all. However, on dry days and around and about, it will be ready to get to work. I have owned a carbon steel Schrade old timer for decades and it still looks good, as I look after it! I shall treat this latest purchase in the same way as the Schrade This knife is excellent value and is worthy of five stars on this count, plus on the style and construction of the knife. Unfortunately the main blade is slightly off centre and the blade doesn't snap open as it should, hence the one star deduction. The blade will no doubt loosen up in use, but being accustomed to hight tech offerings, from Lion steel, Kansept and QSP etc, a breaking in period is something I am not familiar with . A super knife. I would have given it five stars, but the couple of gripes here have influenced my decision. A knife harking back to a time when things were much more simple and straightforward than they are now!

Rough ryder cattle man's carbon steel

Posted by Stephen Saunders on 14th Jun 2025

Great knife well made and carbon steel (T10),bigger than i was expecting, feels strong and solid, read the other reviews, would recommend it, if the carbon steel and rusting is a concern use a PTFE SPRAY LUBRICANT let it dry and you should be good for year's.

Rough Ryder Classic Cinnamon Cattleman / T10 carbon steel blades

Posted by Mike King on 6th Oct 2024

Another Rough Ryder and another worthwhile buy . As usual the overall aesthetics , the sturdy feel of this particular pocket knife and the fit and finish are way above what you expect from the relatively low price , how do RR do it ? This model is one of their classic range having both blades ( clip point and a pen blade ) made from T10 carbon steel . Both blades have a definitive half stop and a nice snap when fully open and as with other RRs Ive had the blades are well centred with no lateral or vertical movement .The scales are of the Cinnamon bone stag style and look really class with the nicely contrasting metal bolsters . The three matching pins through the scales are reasonably flush considering the heavy stag texture of the scales which is great . The Cattleman has black G10 liners I believe then fitted with the very well fitted brass liners between the back springs . I would say it is more like a jack knife style with the configuration of the blades but all in all a lovely well fitted and finished knife for either use or display . I will say it again , for the price of these RRs it is a no brainer .I will only use them as collectors knives but by all accounts and reviews Ive read , they are very capable working knives , Definitely will be adding to my collection .

    Rough Ryder cattleman folding knife

Posted by Brian on 1st Nov 2023

I'm extremely happy with this robust bone handled knife, it's main blade is just about legal. The handle feels very solid in your hand, the blades are carbon steel so over time they will develop a patina but that's to be expected. Overall a lovely knife for the money ??.

Excellent example of an equal sided Jack. Very sharp out of box as you would expect from T10 carbon steel blades. Large handle gives purfect purchase when cutting .Nice old style Jack
