The blades lock using the Virobloc safety ring, which in addition to locking the blade in the open position for safety of use, now enables locking of the blade in the closed position for safety during carrying.
Opinel knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the good strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy sharpening. Carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing the knives: we recommend that you avoid damp environments and that you dry and grease the blade after use.
The handles are made from durable French orange beech wood, and the Opinel Yatagan blades, with their curved points and round profiles, are effective, precise and elegant.

Definitely worth the money
After misplacing the one I bought in France, I ordered a 6cm. It's slightly smaller but razor sharp and keeps it's edge. For the money, it's worth every penny

Ok. So with hearing about Opinel knives I thought I would purchase one. I must admit I was expecting better quality. The wooden handle feels really cheap and like any request to perform anything over and above gentle cuts, would result in it falling to pieces. Blade came not overly sharp and had a couple of jagged sections so will need to sharpen those out. Not the greatest knife I’ve ever seen.
Purchased as a work tool but it’s too good for that. The sharp edge on this blade is fantastic. Beautiful safety locking mechanism makes this knife a wonderful life tool. Buy one.
Lovely knife I alllso have the no 8 but this looks and feels quite a bit bigger very sharp allso good price and service will buy again thank you.
Bought my first Opinel (No.6) recently. Great service by HH, nuff said! No. 6 is a little knife but comes very sharp OTB. A few swipes on the strop and it was soon razor sharp. With a locking blade it's obviously not UKF, but great for fishing, small garden jobs and round the house tasks. I've seen some pimped versions and for a few quid if you want to try your hand it's no great loss if you screw it up. Might give it a go! Cheers HH
