The blades lock using the Virobloc safety ring, which in addition to locking the blade in the open position for safety of use, now enables locking of the blade in the closed position for safety during carrying.
Opinel knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the good strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy sharpening. Carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing the knives: we recommend that you avoid damp environments and that you dry and grease the blade after use.
The handles are made from durable French orange beech wood, and the Opinel Yatagan blades, with their curved points and round profiles, are effective, precise and elegant.

Great pocket knife. Very light and takes a good edge.
Light as a feather, cheap as chips. Quality steel, which is easy to sharpen. A tactile, wooden handle, which is easily customised and a locking mechanism which is intuitive- and removeable. You can do most small cutting and slicing tasks efficiently, with this narrow blade, including dressing small game and various kinds of woodwork or kitchen prep. An ideal companion pocket knife, for any outdoor activity and a perfectly useable kitchen parer. Did I say Opinels are cheap as chips? No wonder they've sold a million of them. Pick the size you usually prefer and prepare to be happy.....

Fantastic carbon steel blade. After years and thousands of pounds collecting knives I’m done with boring characterless super steels and have settled back into the world of carbon steel. I’ve always found them to have way more bite than stainless super steel and anything without a patina for me now is just plain dull. Get one.
