Ontario RAT II D2 Satin

Love this thing would be the perfect edc if it wasn't a locking blade.

The best choice considering size, quality, type of steel, blade parameters, price. You need to understand a little about knives to understand this. There is no point in explaining. Heinnie Haynes service excellent as always.

A great knife for fine cutting had one before but but but lost it and had to have another one

Really impressed with this knife, my first Ontario, the lock up is solid, fit and finish amazing only gripe handle feels a bit slippy but for what you would use this knife for it would not matter. Shame we have to pay way over the odds for them but if you didn't know that US Dollar price you would think this was a fantastic priced knife. Well impressed with it, great action to open and close.A rat 1 next I think.

The RAT II is rated by many as the number 1 cheap knife for the last 10 years. For the price. In the USA where most of these reviews are from, these knives are $35. This is my only issue, and the reason I have to drop a star. For $35 this is an absolute bargain. In the UK at £58 its not the bargain its rated to be. I bought my first knife as I was always opening my boxes with my kitchen knives. Now I have a very expensive set of kitchen knives, I had to fins another solution. Hence why I got this. But this has now sparked a new hobby for me. I feel the need to collect some more of these EDC knives as they feel great in the hand, and I love flicking the damn things open.

Have more expensive knives but the rat ii just seems the I prefer to use it just works for me

I first bought the Ontario R2D2' almost exactly a year ago, and have been more than happy with it. As you can see from my earlier review, I really wanted black FRN scales, but had to settle for green at the time. But now HH have it in black, so I had to have one. Much to my surprise, the knife that HH delivered to me (super-fast as usual) was very much sub-standard. The blade centring was so far off that the blade hit the liner when closed, and as far as I could see without taking it to bits one of the teflon washers was screwed up around the pivot. Anyway, a quick chat with Richard produced a returns label and a perfect replacement arrived shortly afterwards. I should add that this sort of issue is very unusual, being only the third knife to be sent back in over four and a half years of collecting “ the other two being a Boker Plus XS which broke its back spring, which was replaced, and a Fox Suru HH version which developed a very loose pivot, which was repaired. So, I am now the happy owner of an R2D2' with black FRN. My green version is currently wearing a custom deep carry black pocket clip from MXG Gear in the USA - which cost about half as much as the knife itself! As I said in the earlier review, this makes the knife pretty much perfect, and so will probably get swapped to the black knife, which should result in a very discrete, if rather less than legal EDC. The R2D2' is still one of my all-time favourite knives, and even more so now with black scales. As ever, many thanks to HH for their usual amazing customer service.
