    Parang Duku Chandong

Great Quality, Gave it a 'forged in fire' testing. Batoned fire wood, no rolling stayed sharp, made feather sticks fine curls with the still sharp edge, point work is controlled by doing able to carefully choke up on the blade. This is a Knife for Life, lightweight packs a punch and a bite. Always happy with Heinnie Haynes got a few bits from them now.

    Nice blade but...

    Posted by DS1150 on 6th Jan 2016

I read about these online, tracked the company down and looked at their blog and YouTube. There was and still is very little about these out there. Ray Mears has these also on his site so it must be quite highly regarded. I have the Condor Village Parang also to compare it with. I liked the ethos and history behind the blade design and the company so I just had to have one. I was mildly disappointed when opening the box. It comes nicely packaged but what annoyed me was the edge. It's convexed nicely but was quite poorly finished with lots of grind marks along the length of the blade. I understand it's handforged, but for the price I think 10 minutes on a polishing wheel wouldn't be too much to ask. I like the hammer marks and the fact it's not 100 smooth and perfectly aligned. I love the handle. It feels great to hold and use. The balance is great. This has been a criticism of the Condor with it being full tang which isn't how traditional parangs are made. With it being a stick tang, I wouldn't smash on it as much as I would the Condor or a beefy 7-10" survival knife. I don't think the sheath is great but it perfectly usable. It wasn't super sharp out of the box, but a bit of sharpening and stropping and it comes up nice. I really like it but I love it.
