Excellent for beginners and advanced users alike. The original and legendary Controlled-Angle System is the ultimate in Knife Sharpening technology.

The knife clamp included in the system holds the knife steady, and holds the angle guide static and firm, so that the user can achieve the desired angle with every stroke of the sharpener. The Coarse to Ultra-Fine hones provide an excellent range of grits for complete edge care and maintenance. The Serrated sharpening hone also allows sharpening of serrated knives with this system. The Lansky system is perfect for outdoor sporting, kitchen or workshop knives, and offers the widest range of accessories available. It feels like Lansky have really cheaped out with their kit in the last few years. With the current Angle-Controlled systems, the clamp is made from what feels like lightweight aluminium, but is quite flexible and you can feel this when holding it during use. It's also poorly cast with both rough and sharp edges, which makes it even worse in the hand. The clamp tips used to have rubber ends, to better hold small blades, but those have gone along with both screws having thumbscrews to adjust the tension. As is, it's a fiddly job getting a blade securely held if the spine isn't square and a balancing act between the two screws. In use, the rods can also be quite flexible and are similarly fiddly to get set up each time you want to resharpen your blade. The case is again cheap plastic, which does the job just not very well. The stones themselves are actually pretty good, although the finger grips could be tweaked and improved. There is a stand for the clamp, but that is sold separately and even then is wobbly and awkward. The angle options are limited by the number of holes, so those uses requiring 15º or 35º are out of luck. If you have nothing better, this will just about get the job done, but this Lansky kit has long ago had it's day - There are far better options out there now, and for notably less money too. I gave mine several months, but remained so disappointed that I binned it and bought a different product.
