    Does for venison

Posted by The Hebridean on 10th May 2016

I bought this knife from HH about 5 years now and it has become my main knife for cleaning up venison. The carbon steel blade does NOT disappoint in terms of quality of construction or ease of use. The partially serrated blade is very usefull and easily seperates sinew from tissue and bone and cuts steak with the gratest of ease. But that is what this blade was designed for (just not a four legged animal in mind). It holds an edge really well andcan be shapened with just a few strokes of a diamond rod etc. I have even thrownit in the dishwasher a few times toclean it up with good results. Yes arbon steel is prone to rust but the blade coating helps tremendously with preventing that. I have also used thisknife while beach combing for cutting rope and net plastic strapping etc and it does what it is supposed to with minimal fuss. I havent used it for battoning wood but then I havent needed to batton wood with it. If I lost it I'd get annother.

    Excellent

Posted by Will on 28th Apr 2016

I've had this knife for about 6 months now and I think it's about time I reviewed it. I bought this mainly as an archery knife but I have used it as so much more. A lot of the time it was just used to dig arrows out of logs, trees and stumps. But, because i loved the feel of it and knew it could do so much more, I found myself using it more and more for random tasks. Whenever i would go into the woods, go camping or down to the farm, i would just put this on my belt and use it for whatever you'd need a knife for. Since then it has dug through pheasant feeders, gutted, skinned and jointed rabbits, taken the breasts off of birds, chopped branches off of both dead and alive trees to make shelter and get firewood. It has then proceeded to strip those branches of twigs and bark. It chops through logs and small trees quite well. It can also baton through logs, which i have done up to 3". But, i would not reccomend this because it is not only a stick tang, it is a 90° angle transitiom between the thick and thin part of the tang which isn't as strong as it could be. i wouldn't trust it to hold up to excessive batoning. If you have to baton with it i would stick to 2" logs to an absolute maximum. I have carved and whittled with this, everything from tent pegs to spoons. I have used it to eat with, as well as cut up veggies and meat for the pot. I also have carved meat. After all of this all I've ever needed to do it strop it and give it a light touch up- in 6 months!! This knife was worth every penny. It is a very capable knife as i hope ive displayed!

    Worth the wait

Posted by uglydog on 11th Feb 2016

WOW. Ordered Wed morning delivered Thurs morning. Wish HH stocked all the knives I would like in my collection and then I wouldn't have to deal with other knife selling websites that wouldn't know what customer service is if it jumped up and bit them on the backside. HH, 5* for communication and 5* for customer service - keep up the good work! Swithered for a long time about whether to get the KA-BAR with the leather or Kraton handle. As my knives are really for show I went with the leather handle and I wasn't disappointed. I can't really say anything that hasn't been said before about this knife but it looks fantastic, finish is excellent and it was razor sharp otb. Tight fit in the leather sheath so even without the snap didn't fall out when I shook it upside down but I did find the leather handle just slightly slippy. However a must for any knife collection - I LIKE!

    Can't go wrong

Posted by Bert on 25th May 2015

Classic blade, history since 40's Very well made, fit and finish is perfect. Tough build, super sharp OTB, point is pure evil. Good steel, heavy build, practical and good-looking. Great for collectors and bushcrafters alike. Stacked leather handle and pommel really nice. Would advise replacement kydex sheath for practical users. Great birthday present - thank you Gemma. x

    Built for the veld

Posted by Andy W on 13th Feb 2014

I am an ex Game Ranger and still spend a lot of time at home in the Eastern Cape. While there I typically spend most of my time out in the veld and my knives typically get exposed to all sorts of abuse during the course of an average day. I chose the Kabar as my bush knife for the same reason I chose a Lee-Enfield as my hunting rifle: they are built to perform under the most trying and hostile environments around. I bought the serrated edge without meaning to and have to confess that the next knife I buy will be the plain edge. The new polymer sheath is also much better than the old leather one. My Kabar has never let me down, it is solidly built, holds its edge well, is comfortable to use and doesn't weigh a ton, making it easy to carry all day on your belt. If this knife ever breaks (and it doesn't seem likely to do so), I'd buy another one without a second thought.

I recieved this as a present from my wife. I had always wanted one. Great knife of biblical proportion, feels right in your hand. It seems it can dispatch anything that it faces.

    Great knife

Posted by seamus on 2nd Apr 2013

I ordered this knife last Monday and it arrived a week to the day today (I live in Ireland) and I was immediately surprised by the quality of both the knife and sheath. After I ordered this knife I regretted it after reading some negative reviews about it across the web saying it lacked quality etc.. but to be honest I was very happy with it when I opened the box as it knife was shaving sharp straight out of the box. It has a full tang which is thin through the handle but if you don't abuse the blade I really don't see it breaking very easily because it feels like a very solid knife. Having said that this is my first knife purchase and I have no experience in this field as of yet but thats just my view on it. Perfect service from Heinnie Haynes... will buy again.

    Superb Quality Knife

    Posted by VinceLewis.net on 17th Jan 2013

Took delivery of the knife this morning and upon opening the black box, I was immediately impressed with this knife. It is a rugged as it feels and has got some attitude behind it. The matt black blade looks great and the grip is secure in the hand. It was scary razor sharp out of the box and I shaved the hairs off the back of my hand with it. This distinctive, world famous U.S Army and U.S.M.C knife is a must have if you are a knife collector or WWII history buff...as there is some serious history behind this knife...seeing service in every conflict with the U.S Army since 1942 right up to Afghanistan today. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, a solid, high quality knife, in a high quality sheath...that stinks of leather big time...lol. All sealed in its box from the manufacturers. 5 star recommendation, you won't be dissapointed, as it's a great addition to any knife collection.

    Good knife ... But

Posted by Paul on 1st Aug 2012

I bought one of these some 15 years ago, fit and finish was superb and the top false edge came sharpened. The current version is not quite as nice. Coating seems less well done, fit and finish is not as good and the top edge now comes blunt. This is not HH fault, it's just that Ka-Bar have lowered their game. Still a nice knife but shame they are not as nice as before.
