I have several Condor knives and a few of their machetes. The village parang for example is HUGE! but it is also useful in its way and nice to hold. This Pack Golok is pure working tool. Although it is made with the same materials as the village parang, including a sheath that looks like delicious chocolate, the golok just asks for work. It is light and agile, mine arrived sharp enough to make feather sticks. It is "flickable" which to me means no problems limbing branches and I used it straight away to chop some thick branches for later sawing into firelogs . I usually use an axe for this purpose, but wanted to test this blade and it actually proved to be just as good. I was impressed. Specs. etc. as per. Heinnie's description, really nice hardwood handle. If you are thinking about a machete for wood work then I would highly recommend this little beauty as it's slightly heavier than a parang but just has so much bite and I really enjoyed using it. HH service exemplary as always. Take care, Eddie.
great work horse but my one came really blunt and I mean blunt
The Pack Golok is a really great feeling knife. The balance is excellent with a distinct "weight forward" feel. The blade has a full convex and mine was done exceptionally well. It arrived very sharp. The handle has a very nice forward angle which lends to the exceptional overall balance of the knife. The sheath is very nice dark brown leather, and I have not experienced any snap issues with it. The knife is very fast out of the sheath and goes back in equally as well. I feel this will be a great chopper, but also more adaptive for small tasks. I may actually add a functional choil to this one to further facilitate this point. The only complaint I have is the extreme smoothness of the wood scales, but is easily corrected with a wrap or a wood modification.
Out of the box, this Golok looks a little rough. Dull wood and a convex grind that is a bit heavy. That's the bad, but the good: Good distal taper, strong construction and good heat treat with near perfect balance. Spend a bit of time tarting up and you've got a superb and good looking tool.
Awesome piece of steel, the ad doesn't do it justice. Great balance, wicked chopping power. I have issues with the sheath though, too fussy, it takes 2 hands and both your eyes to get the blade back home safely. Mine now sits in a 3 ply, stitch and tape job, not half as pretty, but I've still got all my fingers. Still gets 5 stars though as the Golok was what I paid for. Usual 5 stars for HH, still the best.
