Description

The Case Sod Buster JR is part of Case's Yellow Synthetic Family. The distinctive yellow handle brightens this family while maintaining its toughness, making it one of the most beloved in the Case line.

The Sod Buster JR is smaller than the traditional Sod Buster without compromising durability. The Skinner blade is ideal for skinning purposes among other different everyday demands.

The blade is constructed with Chrome Vanadium (CV) carbon steel. Some knife lovers will settle for nothing less than chrome vanadium blades, since this special formula of alloyed steel is the “original” Case blade steel. Case Chrome Vanadium blades are known for their edge-holding ability and easy re-sharpening.

The blade is under three inches long and non-locking and is therefore legal to carry at the owners discretion.

Such a timeless knife! Never been much of a slip joint guy, but since I wanted something rustic and classy, I went with this and I am so glad I did! It is actually smaller than i thought it would be, but that's for the better in my opinion, as it carries nicely in the fifth pocket. Fit and finish is actually pretty good for a decently priced knife. Little bit offcentered blade but nothing worrisome, it doesn't rub the bolsters. Simple and beautiful. Also it was my first HH order and I have to say the delivery to Central Europe was super fast! Truly a professional company!

    Something about the knife...

Posted by Graham on 1st Jun 2020

I have for my sins become a collector of knives, which I am pleased to say my wife supports my habit. Anyway, like many others I have stayed away from case knives as they are quite a lot, but thought I would try this little one and pleased I did. Like some others have said, the blade is over to one side, and mine does rub a little on the liners, but it feels so good in the hand and really does sharpen up nicely. Are they better than rough riders..... Yes, but not by much and worth a go. The blades are thicker than the RR, and a a slightly better finish, but there really is something nice about case knives in the hand.

    The definitive classic...

Of this type of pocket knife pattern, the venerable Farmer's knife (hence the term Sodbuster'), the Case Sodbuster Jr is a true benchmark by which to compare others. The ergonomics are excellent and this model carries very comfortably. The blade length complies with current requirements to be UK friendly, and the blade profile is more versatile than it at first seems. The hollow ground geometry provides a fine thin edge that is really simple to keep very sharp, particularly with stropping. If a slight burr from the factory is present on the edge, just minimise it with a fine stone or kitchen steel, then strop the edge. Case uses dry graphite in the joint for lubricant. Your new knife is not dirty; it isn't soot, simply dry lube. If the action seems gritty at first, just persevere. It will smooth out. Normal sensible oiling of the joint and just a dab on the blade keeps it in tip top condition. One nice thing about this model is that the blade can easily be pinch opened without necessarily using the nail nick. Good news if you have short fingernails or if you are in a situation where your hands are cold and wet. In fact, with just a little practice the Sodbuster Jr can be opened with one hand, either right or left, a useful technique at times. Most users know that carbon steel darkens with normal use, quickly developing a patina which adds character and looks authentic. This is an old-fashioned pattern that is very comfortable to use, with superb balance, and a well designed blade profile. It is a useful pocket tool and well made. Compared with many more modern designs that are available, this rustic and charming slipjoint pocket knife feels like a step back in time to a simpler way of living. Well done to Heinnie's for making this classic available. Nice one!
