Description

The History Knife & Tool Sailor's Knife is the central and most original knife of international merchant shipping and the navy. The German Navy still carries these knives today with minimal variations; the specifications are laid down in the technical delivery condition TL 5110-0026.

At first glance, the knife appears inconspicuous, but it is precisely the typical simple shape that guarantees its high functionality and universal usability. All sailor's knives, regardless of the manufacturer, share the traditional saltwater-resistant ebony handle scales with two brass rivets and a brass lanyard hole as well as a robust black leather sheath with a belt loop. The centrepiece is the thin, flat-ground, mainly straight and slightly bulbous drop-point blade.

Boker History Knife - Sailors Knife

Posted by Nick Janczak on 27th Dec 2025

This knife put a huge smile on my face! For the price I wasn't expecting much but I got that wrong, for the price it's a brilliant knife. Very sharp out of the box and very slicey. I've used it in the kitchen and also for making kindling and splitting small logs. It had some rough edges that I finished with fine emery paper otherwise I think its a magic piece of kit. Not a Rambo knife, not a survival knife, its not overbuilt tank, rather, designed for being a slicer and cutter - I love its total simplicity and classic no-nonsense functional appearance. The leather sheath is well made but was very tight and that made it dangerous getting the knife out, I had to do some work getting the sheath loosened up otherwise you'd have to pull so hard on the knife to get it out you could end up cutting yourself. Its a knife for using and not worrying about it getting scratched.
