The Black Fox Ciol could soon become one of your EDC favourites. Designed by Denis Simonutti, you just know that this is going to be a well balanced tool.

With a satin 7cm non-locking blade of stainless 440C, this knife is comfortably UK-friendly carry (the legal limit for UK carry is 7.6cm). Weighing in at only 100g, we like the way the belly of the blade curves up, elegantly mirroring the finger choil.

This model, the Black Fox Ciol Micarta is available with a choice of green or brown canvas micarta scales.

    BLACK FOX CIOL MICARTA

Posted by Fruityfrog on 10th Nov 2021

This UK carry able knife is absolutely lovely. The detentions for the blade work really very well. I just love the blade shape with a slightly deeper belly. This of course helps when cutting is taking place. Just looked the shape of a traditional Gurkha blade. Made for deep cutting. I'm not for one minute suggesting that this little knife is in anyway like a Gurkha knife. Just that the slightly deeper bellied design is very nice to look at whilst being very good at carrying out the tasks for which it is designed for. I bought the green micata scaled handle version. I think that this is perfect for me. The grip of the handle is superb for me. I however have long skinny hands so all four fingers fit the handle very well. I do though think that even people with larger hands will also get on quite well with this small to medium pocket knife. It doesn't have a pocket clip, instead it has its own deep sheath, made out of good quality thick leather. The knife gets well gripped by this sheath and goes all the way in. Because it's swallowed, once the knife has been inserted, I put a small length of paracord to be able to remove it again. If you buy one, I really don't see anyone being anything other than delighted. Hennie as always virtually delivering before buying. So, five

Not bad but not great either

Nice little knife but didn’t fill me with confidence. Smaller than I was expecting but nevertheless it was the rather weak back spring that I found most disappointed in. The micarta scales appeared lighter one side than the other which took a bit away from the quality which is a shame. Not terrible, but not really one for me

    Black Fox Ciol

Been looking for a UK carry legal knife with a shouter tip than my Real Steel G10 Luna. The Ciol appears to be a great knife especially for the price. Solid blade and sharpening it is not as bad as I imagined. Nice solid stops on opening/closing. Impressed by the this little knife and the service from Hennie.

    Ok but....

Posted by Sharp Terry on 9th Apr 2021

I went for the brown micarta version. The micarta is quite rough and slightly unfinished looking which I quite like. The opening tension is fine and it clicks open solidly. There is a 90 degree half stop. The lack of liners makes it a light knife. It’s great it has a lanyard hole. I like the leather slip which still works if you add a lanyard. The fit and finish seems generally good and it is very sharp out of the box. The only negative is that inside the knife the back spring dips down and this has caused a very slight flat spot at that point on cutting edge. This means the edge is hitting the spring before the heel of the blade hits the pin. This may resolve itself when the knife has seen a bit of sharpening but it loses one star for that. You should also note that when your finger is in the cut out this does not act like the safety choil on the UKPK. The blade can still shut and your finger will be in the way. Luckily the firm open position gives a certain amount of protection against this.

    Ok but...

There is nothing wrong with this knife, but just doesn't feel as great value for money as other similarly priced knives. The micarta isn't as nice as that on the Maserin Scout, and feels more like Spyderco's FRN. Also the lack of liners make for a very light but, I feel, unbalanced package. The backspring also feels a bit feeble to me. I do prefer a strong spring, but understand that others will disagree. Steel-wise, I think I would have preferred D2. I do feel that something like the Real Steel Luna offers better value, but if you want a very light recurve then this could be right for you. Alternatively think about the carbon fibre Fox Libar, although that is about 2.5 times the price.

    Blackfox

This is my second blackfox from Hennie. Great service as usual. 440c and micarta in a sweet non threatening little package. Not too mention a very good pricepoint. What more can you ask for, buy them all before I do.
