Description

We love to dig in the dirt and any tool that makes the experience more fun is a tool we want in our bag. After spending countless years testing all different types of tools from locations around the world, the Barebones founder discovered a tool called the Hori Hori. Roughly translated from Japanese, Hori Hori means Dig Dig.

The Barebones Hori Hori, based on a Japanese garden knife was designed to be the ultimate multi tool in your garden and Barebones' unique take on this tool should feel right at home in any garden setting. A quality walnut handle and tempered steel blade mean this tool is built to last. Digging, trenching, planting, cutting, and even popping the top off your choice of refreshing beverage, we think you'll find the Barebones Hori Hori to be your favourite go-to bushcraft tool.

A sheath is not supplied, but is available separately. See "Related Products", below.

    Excellent Value and Quality

Posted by Mark R on 2nd Oct 2020

I have been waiting for these to come back into stock to buy one as a birthday present for my wife who is a very keen gardener. Unfortunately missed her birthday so thought of Christmas present instead. Then I saw all the bulbs etc the wife has just bought to plant right now ready for next spring. so a very early Christmas present it is! She absolutely loves it. Fantastic tool. Sturdy, well designed and extremely versatile. They will no doubt sell out again very soon. Get one now while you can.

    Garden work horse

I recently bought this tool and so far I've not been able to put it down. It's so versatile up the allotment it has a use everywhere. I would think it would be just at home around camp as it's great for small digging jobs, cuts well and the saw is pretty useful to. One down side no sheath. I made one from Pvc plastic and pop rivets.

    Excellent all round garden tool

Posted by Ruukuu on 11th May 2020

Two weeks ago i took on the job of sorting out my elderly neighbours pretty large garden. (while being careful to keep social distancing in mind). It hasn't been worked on for at least ten years and so looked like a jungle....ivy tendrils 15-20 ft long, ( i kid you not) Anyway, i had bought this Hori Hori from Heinnie Haynes and not used it yet, so i thought what the hell i'll try it out. It is a superb tool for the garden. i have no idea how i ever coped without it before now. Every day i used it for cutting, hacking, chopping, prying, scraping. I used it to lever over two hundred bricks that were hard compacted under soil. i used it as a fulcrum for getting weeds out of crazy paving and brick paving. Dug up roots.....and if they were too tough i'd just cut, saw or chop them out. All the time i'm doing this the Hori Hori just seemed to be looking at me and saying " is that it ? is that all you've got for me to do"? It dug holes, cut rope, etc etc etc......then went and helped me pot loads of begonias and african marigolds. I gave it one sharpen in a weeks hard work, and that's it. Its brilliant. If you are a gardener you have to get one. I don't believe you will regret it. If you do...…..i will buy it from you :-) One down point.....no sheath. But if that's a problem, buy some duct tape, and with a bit of cardboard you can whip up a sheath very easily in ten minutes or so. Ruukuu

    Ordered 4 so far!

Posted by Calum on 29th Apr 2020

I originally ordered one of these for a friend. She loves it. I ordered a Hori - Hori Ultimate for myself but sadly had to return it as it had a loose pommel. Heinnie sent me 2 of these (by my request) instead. I am very pleased with the tool. It inspires you to dig in the garden, which not many tools can claim! I think nitpicking about the blade sharpness is missing the point of this tool. If you thrust it in and out of the earth for an hour it will self sharpen as much as you will ever possibly need. The serrated edge has a thirst for roots. The leverage ratio of the handle and blade just feels right somehow. Marks on the blade and handle after use are irrelevant and to be expected. No sheath is a shame, but it does have a lanyard hole. As a small thank you for outstanding customer service in returning the Ultimate tool I ordered a 4th for another friend. All in all a highly recommended tool at a great price with frankly astounding HH service. What more could you possibly want? This is one for daily use, not hiding in the "Man Drawer"

Great knife for its purpose and sorted sheath!

Posted by Paul on 30th Oct 2019

I ordered 2 of these knifes for garden use, they are solid no nonsense knives, not overly sharp but could be made to be, but really not necessary for gardening purposes ie opening bags, digging plant/seed channels or holes etc. The measure on the back of the knife is good and the saw is ok and as expected, just dont be thinking itll cut through large branches anytime soon. The handle is simple and good wood, no cracks or weak lines along them, the steel is thick and its reasonably well balanced for its use. The main issue is NO SHEATH which is a major issue for gardening purposes, just for the interest of the readers if Heinnie allow it ... look at ebay item No. * as it does fit its unusual shape and curvature. It fits once tapped in good and hard and has a good grip and feel thereafter, they are changing the design soon to accommodate the popper clip not reaching the popper receiver and best to speak with them direct. Also it is a good look for the knife overall and is pretty solid. Now it has a proper sheath it is a very good solid knife and safe in its carrying sheath. A great value knife and as always great delivery and service from HH. ATB
