    Very nice

Posted by Barnaby James on 24th Jan 2021

It's a nice hand warmer. The build quality is very good, even the little bag is well made. And its nice and warm when it's going properly. However, l find that the heat output is not very consistent even though l use good quality fuel. If you take it out your pocket and hold it in your hands the it will cool down very fast until it's barely noticeable. And if you put it down on a cold surface like metal it will go out completely in a few minutes. There is definitely a learning curve to using these warmers. I also have the whitby warmer and I find It to be much more reliable and it burns much hotter and its cheaper, but the build quality is not as good as the zippo. The zippo feels very good in the hand and has no sharp edges but the whitby does. And the whitby will still go out if placed on a very cold surface, I guess all warmers do that so be careful. So if you're more concerned about looks and feel then I would recommend the zippo. If its more heat and reliability you want then get the whitby.

    Warmly recommended...

These have been quite popular for many years, and despite the emergence of USB charged hand warmers and chemical-based alternatives, Zippo's timeless version still gets the job done. Be sure to read the directions carefully. Blas© indifference to filling and ignition can easily lead to one's hand being suddenly engulfed in blue flames. Not so good, although the conflagration was a pretty shade of indigo... and was quickly, (frantically) blown out once the microsecond of shock passed - so - lessons learned! As the previous reviewer said, a milder flame is best to get the Zippo going. Once you think it is lit, although the hand warmer has no visible flame, leave it in a safe place for a minute before you go outside with it, and if a moment later your Zippo is still warm, then it is properly radiating heat. Once the techniques for filling and lighting are mastered, the Zippo is a great little companion on a cold day. Carrying two is nice for really cold weather, or to share with a friend. The little bag works well for comfortable carrying in a pocket and helps to prevent things getting too warm. Don't remove the element once the hand warmer is running. It will be extinguished and almost immediately go cold. Reingnition may be tricky. These can be carried in a shirt pocket comfortably, however fumes may be noticeable. And you probably will want to not have it in a shirt pocket for more than a few minutes. It is possible to get a low temperature burn through excessive contact, or an irritation if one is a bit sensitive to chemical exposure. Just something to keep in mind. Zippo fluid burns cleanly, and is now the exclusive choice for me; Clipper fluid left a sticky brown residue in the packing of my Zippo. After cleaning it (with some difficulty), now only Zippo fluid is used. As with Zippo lighters, with a little basic maintenance and experience, the product works just fine. Classic bit of kit, with decades of approving users.

    Really does last 12 hours

Posted by PJG on 14th Oct 2016

I have a couple of these (one for each pocket) and they are much better than the old charcoal stick type. hotter cleaner easier Filled to the brim with sawn or zippo fuel you do actually get more than 12 hours out of them. Dont light them with turbo flames as they tend to damage the cat. light with a yellow flame - not a blue flame.

    Long lasting and worth it

Posted by Irate Pirate on 27th Feb 2016

I bought this for last winter and have never regretted it. I did buy replacementcelements at the time, but am still on the first 1 after nearly 2 full seasons of use and have actually lost the replacements. It gives off a consistent and extremely comforting warmth. If you wish you can stop it by (carefully) removing the heating element although there is no reason why you'd need to. It WILL be hot though. The only down side is that you have to heat 1 pockey at a time, which iscwhy I'm going to buy a second 1 now.
