A lot of knife but a lot of money!
This review needs to checkout my review of the Apocalypse stone wash version. When I got my convex version Heinnie’s imported it specially for me and had only got the stone wash version on their website. Top marks for them doing this for me but this explains why if you are considering this knife you need to read the review on the other model. As a specialist version of the Apocalypse the covex version is significantly more expensive. Neither are cheap. Both are hand made to a custom level. Is the convex version worth the additional price? The ability to sharpen a convex edge clearly plays a part in your choice but if you are skilled at both convex and V edge sharpening, you can re-profile a V edge to a convex edge (not a convex grind though) and the performance will be very similar. So if you can do this - and using a Ken Onion belt sharper would do it - you could put the saving made towards purchasing the belt sharpener and this gives you a level of performance which is hard to split a difference. However, the convex grind is better. It will pop wood apart when battening and will feather stick better but it is a nuanced difference. The likelihood is that if you can afford the standard version, you can afford the convex. So go with the convex!
