Svord VT Ranger
This bowie is fine but no beauty. I'd have prefered a mini version of the full size VTB but the profile is different with a longer clip. It's a tank though and a good sheath. V sharp too.

The Svord Von Tempsky Ranger is a replica Ranger Bowie Knife is based on the design than Von Tempsky issued to his company of Forest Rangers in 1863.
Gustavus Ferdinand von Tempsky, adventurer, soldier and artist, learned the benefits of the Bowie knife in California while working in the gold fields. He possessed a fine knife of American manufacture for his own use, but had about 30 bowie knives made to his personal design by a cutler of Shortland St, Auckland. These were issued to the men of No. 2 Company, New Zealand Forest Rangers, under Major von Tempsky's command.
The knives were made from waggon spring steel - being one of the few sources of suitable steel available to blacksmiths in Auckland in 1863.
Svord's version uses high carbon tool steel for it's 6½ inch blade and is supplied with a leather sheath.

Just received this less than 24 hrs from ordering after a long while being tempted but didn't like the look of it. (I already have the Hog Beater and VT Bowie). The photos don't do the knife justice and first impressions are I love it. It looks tough, it's sharp and very hefty. Sheath is great too. Top notch knife and routine HH "Prime" delivery. Full marks all round
Placed next to the more expensive Boker Bowie it creates an interesting juxtaposition. Without doubt every bit as high quality as the more expensive knife, but with a form that is unmistakably all about the business in hand. So while they are both Bowie knifes they compliment each other as part of a collection. I am extremely happy with the purchase. I have a new favourite! Great service as always from Heinnie.
The knife is very well made and really looks good. The sheath is also very well made.Any body that likes historical type products will like this knife. The service from Heinnie Haynes was excellent as usual, ordered late afternoon arrived the next morning.
Another peice of amazing quality knife-making from Svord. The quality of handle, blade and sheath is unmatched at this price. As with the Bowie, the blade is capable of the heaviest work, while maintaining a fine edge. The handle is practical and comfortable and the sheath is of the highest quality, although i do find the guard catches on the sheath strap and is awkward to remove. This knocks it back a star for me as it hinders practicality. While the quality if great, I wish the blade was a little deeper - the dropped spine is a bit severe for my liking, but then this is part of staying true to the historical design, so no biggie. Great knife, then, but I can't say I hold it in the same affection as the bowie! As with the bowie, this is a substantial knife and I wish Svord would make a 4" blade knife of similar quality.
