Designed by Michael Janich, the Yojimbo 2 epitomizes the concept of the “tactical Wharncliffe.” For users and collectors concerned with simple design and who prefer non-reflective blade finishes, this dynamic folder is now available in a low-profile all-black format.
Its hollow-ground CPM S30V stainless steel blade is cloaked in a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, and all its handle hardware, including its nested stainless steel liners, standoffs, screws and four-position pocket clip, also have matching black finishes.

I can agree with Big Al with pretty much everything he said. I've only used it for a very short while but love most things about it, with the exception of 1 thing, the lock. Every time I open the knife I spin the blade out with my (right) thumb and as the lock engages it pinches my finger on the back of the handle, it's never bad but catches me every time. This little gripe isn't worth dropping its score but a small redesign around the lock would resolve this easily.
A black blade on the YO 2 has been asked for frequently on the Spyderco forum and here it is. This is the first 'standard production' YO 2 with a DLC blade, previous knives being Sprint Runs or exclusives. Literally the only thing not 'blacked out' is the edge. Everything else is blacked, this including the bug logo, Mike's initials and Ricasso lettering, these are lasered a dark metallic Gray in contrast to the underlying blade silver normally seen on a DLC blade. At most angles the lasering is virtually invisible, the overall impression is - black. Apart from the black this is a standard YO 2 in all respects. In a similar fashion to, for example, the DLC Manix 2, the blade is treated before coating, thus no 'grind marks' are visible, unlike the DLC Para Military 2, perfect smoothness. Edge was perfect, as usual with a Spyderco, but some are more perfect than others !, bevels were equal on both sides and 30° Inclusive. Concave grind was also equal on both sides. Plunge line has been altered slightly, 'meeting the hole' in virtually a straight line, i.e. starting at the same point on the edge but angled forward on its way to the hole, thus eliminating the curve as it transitions to the horizontal - CQI?, looks sleeker and neater. Looking around the net this seems current on recent YO's. To quote Michael Janich on the latest 'Spyderco Byte'- 'From an aesthetic standpoint, this thing is beautiful' - It certainly is, it's gorgeous, love it. I thoroughly recommend it, faultless, buy one.
