The Spyderco para 3 black takes all the proven features and benefits of Spyderco’s best-selling Para Military™2 and distills them into an even more compact all-purpose cutting tool. Its three-inch blade is precision machined from premium CPM® S30V particle metallurgy stainless steel and features a full-flat grind for a superior balance of strength, point utility, and low-friction cutting performance. It includes a textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp that provide a solid purchase for a forward grip and offer enhanced control during precise cutting tasks. The blade’s signature Trademark Round Hole™ clearly brands it as a member of the Spyderco family and is fully accessible to allow quick, positive, one-handed opening with either hand.

To keep the Para 3 slim and pocket friendly, it features a lightweight, open-backed construction style and its stainless steel liners are nested into machined recesses in the textured G-10 scales. This reduces the handle thickness and provides excellent structural support for the knife’s patented Compression Lock™. Located in the spine of the handle, this high-strength mechanism locks the blade securely open during use, yet allows it to be closed easily and safely with only one hand. A four-position hourglass clip and an oversized lined lanyard hole complete the design, offering ambidextrous tip-up or tip-down carry and allowing the easy attachment of fobs and lanyards.

Gram for gram one of the most capable folding knives ever made, the Para 3 is destined to be a classic.

    They did it again

Posted by Steve on 30th Sep 2021

There are a lot of pm2 versus para 3 reviews out there. I suppose if you were really really looking you could find a number of differences between them but to me, a casual enthusiast it’s just a smaller pm2 Black g10, s45vn, what’s not to like

    Para 3

Posted by Gary on 29th Apr 2021

Great knife, size is just right and robust enough to handle some heavy duty cutting. Light enough as well so don't see the need for the Para 3 light version unless price is a factor. Easy to open and close one-handed. Nice to fidget with. Overall quality is as expected with no faults to mention. Minimalistic but that's Spyderco for you! Fits nicely between the Para2 / Manix and the Dragonfly. Not too intimidating, should you be seen with it outside your home(illegally of course).

    Para 3

Posted by Gary on 23rd Apr 2021

Great utility knife and not intimidating to others should you choose to carry it on you(illegally) and get noticed. Feels compact & light in hand but large and sturdy enough to apply stress on it. Not sure I would want the lighter version as it's light enough. Love the compression lock making it really easy to close one-handed. Keeps my hands busy flicking as I don't want put it down. Typical Spyderco quality as we have come to expect. No faults on it and sharp enough out the box. So all is good!

    Better than the PM2?

Posted by Luke Akrigg on 3rd Feb 2021

I both collect and use knives, and in my collection are 3 PM2's (spyderco Paramilitary 2's for some), the bigger brother of this, the Para 3. I like knives large and small, but admittedly, the child in me still usually prefers anything thats bigger and scarier. I bought the Para 3 because it seemed to be pretty universally praised and as a collector felt I needed at least one Para 3 alongside my other spydercos. I did not for one second expect to be quite as impressed or taken with it as I was, especially when compared with its bigger brother, the PM2. But I think I genuinely find the Para 3 to be the better knife. The PM2 is fantastic, but you do get an awful lot of handle for not really all that much blade, proportionally, it is a little off. The Para 3 just seems more...right, for lack of a better word. The blade is a little stubbier, but the handle is considerably shorter, and whilst this may given you less options for grip, I find it gives the Para 3 a more satisfying appearance and feel overall when you actually get it in hand, and choking up on thd choil feels better than it does on the PM2. Overall you only lose about 1cm of cutting blade over the PM2, but the shorter handle gives this knife a much smaller profile and overall appearance, less likely to scare people or draw unwanted attention. If youve fairly large hands the PM2 may be the better option with more real estate on the handle. But for most I think the Para 3 is actually the better option. I bought one to just add to my collection really, but its instantly taken place ahead of the PM2 in my EDC rotation along with the simply brilliant Manix 2. Think this wont be as good as a PM2, try one and you'll probably be suprised how much you like the little brother.

First spyderco knife, so far so good

Posted by Richard on 21st Jan 2021

I wanted an everyday knife for simple tasks (I'm not skinning deer or felling trees) that I could use one handed and this fitted the bill. It's really light, very grippy and whilst the blade looks odd (to me at least) it handles beautifully. Naturally it's razor sharp. A very usable, easy to carry knife.

    Almost the best

Posted by JC on 28th Apr 2020

I think the PM2 is the best Spyderco knife and actually the best folding knife man has known. A shorter blade would not be so desirable though. So maybe this is second best. Or maybe there are lots of other Spydercos with longer blades that are better. Please note there’s no apostrophe on Spydercos because it doesn’t possess anything and is not a contraction of two words. Why is the PM2 the best? The ergonomics and compression lock. Which this has too if you really prefer a shorter blade.

    The ultimate spyderco

Posted by Paul B on 21st Nov 2017

WOW WOW WOW This is the best Sypderco I have to date and I have many thanks to the guys here at HH, firstly 10/10 again for customer service and speed of delivery . The knife is a beautiful heavy duty tool, the materials are top quality and that compression lock is the best lock I have ever felt on any knife. I wanted the paramilitary 2 but was worried about the size and boy was I happy I got the para 3, it's still a beast of knife but not to oversized but still a good size for edc and the pocket friendly length ensure this. The ergonomics are fanatics this has to be the ultimate spyderco knife.
