Spyderco has long been an industry leader in the use of exotic, high-performance blade steels. After years of using the best materials the world’s leading steel manufacturers could provide, Spyderco decided it was time to create their own.

In close cooperation with Crucible Industries, they have developed CPM SPY27, a particle metallurgy stainless steel containing a proprietary mix of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen, and cobalt. This remarkable composition, enhanced by the amplifying effects of cobalt and the state-of-the-art Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, is produced exclusively for Spyderco.

The Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight CPM SPY27 is a supercharged version of the popular Para 3 Lightweight which enhances all the proven features of the standard version with its high-performance CPM SPY27 blade.

    My favourite knife

Posted by Chris O on 20th Dec 2023

By far my favourite knife, even when I'm wearing MTP (despite the colour). I have the original LW, a Para 2 and two bugouts (full size and mini)...this is the one I reach for everytime. Why? The steel. Now the normal LW has increased in price, its a no-brainer to get the Spy27...it holds an edge well and is super easy to sharpen. YouTube reviews will concur. I love the form factor of the Para 3..while light, it fills my hand and feels like a tool. Meanwhile the mini bugout (same cutting edge length and shape) feels more of a toy. I know some can't get over the scales and they're the only bit I agonise over (do I upgrade?) But they work exceptionally well. A lightweight, well designed, functional knife with great steel..I said it would be in my pocket and hasn't left since.

    If only...

This would be my EDC if lockers were legal. Beautifully put together and capable of taking and keeping a frightening edge, it's been a pleasure to use.

    Spyderco spy27 lw

Most disappointing knife purchase so far. In my opinion they have gone to light weight. Pocket clip had movement on arrival, attempted to adjust, ended up stripping the torx head and it still wiggles, should have just sent it back.
