The Spyderco Native® 5 is the result of years of evolution and refinement of Spyderco’s popular Native model. It expresses the time-tested size, shape, and ergonomics of the original design with the benefit of state-of-the-art materials and a highly refined back lock mechanism that represents the pinnacle of strength, precision, and ease of operation.
This extraordinary expression of the Native 5 combines all the features and benefits of the standard pattern with a blade made from premium Crucible® CPM® S110V® stainless steel. Boasting an impressive 2.8% carbon and high amounts of vanadium and niobium, CPM S110V is specially formulated for exceptional wear resistance and enhanced corrosion resistance—key qualities in a high-performance blade steel. These qualities are locked into the material by Crucible’s powder metallurgy process, an advanced production method that greatly reduces separation of the alloys within the steel and ensures an exceptionally fine microstructure.
The leaf-shaped profile of the Native 5’s blade provides a long, gently curved cutting edge and a sturdy, utilitarian point. For maximum control, it features a forefinger choil and a thumb ramp with strategic jimping (textured grooves) that allow a forward-positioned grip during detailed cutting tasks. Its Trademark Round Hole™ proudly announces the knife’s Spyderco lineage and makes one-handed deployment with either hand swift and positive.
Built on a framework of full skeletonized stainless steel liners, the Native 5’s handle is capped with textured dark blue G-10 scales that are the signature colour of Spyderco’s elite family of CPM S110V knives. To ensure convenient carry and instant access, the handle includes a broad-based four-position clip that supports left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry.

I have been really surprised by how much I like the Native 5. I thought it might be a touch too small and although this perfectly engineered knife almost disappears in the pocket, it is large enough to give a full four fingered grip when opened up. Ergonomics are superb and this is one of the most comfortable knives I have - almost on a par with the Boker OA EDW. Razor sharp with outstanding fit and finish, this little gem has become my new favourite EDC. The blade is surprisingly strong and the FFG make it an excellent slicer. It's too early to tell if the S110V will live up to the hype and by its nature is very slightly "toothy", but after 2 weeks of light to medium use the blade is unmarked and has kept its edge extremely well. I ordered this on Mon 19 Nov at 5pm and it arrived before midday on Tue 20 - big thanks to Ruby and the team!
I have worked with, if I could just take one knife it would be this one. Food prep, fishing, carving and the list goes on and on. Perfection in a small package and this blade does it all. Over the years HH has never missed a beat. Long may you thrive!
