It seems like small knives get respect equivalent to their size, very little. Most people wouldn’t look at a subcompact lightweight car and think “high-performance vehicle”. That first estimation could change when it’s revealed that clown car is disproportionately packing 350 horsepower and a high-speed racing package.

Another example of stature not accurately representing ability is a Spyderco Dragonfly. Its cutting ability is unequal to its diminutive package and innocuous name. It kicks off with premium components like VG-10 blade steel and a G-10 foliage green handle. The VG-10 is tooled into a full flat-grind 2-1/4” long blade with a spine cusp jutting out the top where the thumb naturally settles itself for control over the cutting edge. The G-10 handle is ergonomically blueprinted so when held and used the knife feels and performs like a larger tool. Even the positioning of the Spyderco Round Opening Hole in relation to the pivot is tweaked for smooth opening and hitting all the correct pressure points in the hand. Blade and handle geometry create a series of grip angles with a purposeful flat shelf at the base where the pinkie finger rides as a leverage point.

    Spyderco Dragonfly 2 G10

Posted by Stefan Kruger on 20th Mar 2023

This is a bit of an EDC masterpiece. Despite its small size, it's got the ergonomics of a much larger knife. With the G10 scales and the full metal liners, it's got more heft than the non-G10 version of the same knife. It feels good in the hand. Some people put their noses up at the VG10 steel used, but it's superb for a knife this size. Shame the UK's silly knife laws prohibits me from actually making it my daily carry.

    Little Big knife.

Posted by Davey on 5th Dec 2022

Very well made little knife. Only gripe is g10 which I personally think feels a little cheap (though its extremely hard wearing!) Centering was perfect out the box and the blade is still razor sharp. Heinnie as always...... perfect.

    Spyderco. Dragonfly G10

A well made small knife. Razor sharp out of the box. Excellent ergonomics enable good blade control for cutting tasks especially slicing. I rated it 3 stars because I believe it’s too expensive .

    Great knife

Had it for a year or so now, great steel and the G10 handle scales feel good. Would certainly recommend it.

    Nice to collect

Posted by Alijami on 6th Sep 2016

Anybody who particularly wants a Spyderco and/or the VG-10 steel won't be disappointed but having just purchased its Byrd Robin stablemate I'm a little disappointed on a personal preference basis. I concur with some reviews elsewhere which mention that the spine thumb ramp ends sharply. I prefer the radiused ending on the Robin. I also noticed that Dragonfly deployment is very slightly more uncomfortable than with the Robin even though the hole diameter is identical to the round part of the Robin teardrop. The reason is the Dragonfly hole is very clean (or sharp according to your viewpoint). The Dragonfly is 10g lighter and 1.5mm thinner than the Robin. A possible advantage for some but I prefer the "chunkier" feel in the hand. I also prefer the very slightly more bellied profile of the Robin. So I don't regret having the Dragonfly in my collection but unless I have a task particularly suited to the VG-10 it's the Robin I will carry most days. The relative cost means I could replace it twice.

    Joyful

Posted by Maybuz on 24th Jul 2016

As others have mentioned, this is a 'little big knife'. The knife, with a good choice of steel, performs well above its size and weight - demolishing all the cardboard packaging of two Ikea wardrobes with ease! Spyderco seem to have nailed VG10, making the most of sharpness, longevity and ease of sharpening. The G10 offers a little extra weight, which I like, and it feels better in the hand than the frn, IMHO. Minor criticism would be the pocket clip, on a handle this small can feel uncomfortable on prolonged use, but it's no bother to me as I tend to remove pocket clips anyway. Verdict - excellent knife which punches well above its weight.

    Great little EDC

It is a little knife but it is awesome. Great blade and design and well constructed. Heinnie service was excellent.

    Superb EDC

Posted by Pete on 10th Mar 2015

In most incarnations, the Dragonfly is an excellent EDC. The best example of Spyderco's 'little big knife' philosophy. It can be carried on its own around town/work, or paired with a larger blade for extended cutting chores out in the wilds. Granted there is a hike in price to obtain the G10 version but it adds a small amount of heft and grip to the already supdeb ergonomics. This is one of those knives that will likely remain in constant EDC rotation for the rest of your days. Combines superb steel, clip and handling. And who doesn't like foliage green?

    Solid

Posted by Padraig on 3rd Mar 2015

This was my first Spyderco knife and I was not disappointed. This knife is well made and there is clear attention to detail by Spyderco. The lockup is rock solid and I can not fault this knife in any way. I would recommend this little knife without any hesitation.
