H-1 Will Not Rust! The Spyderco Atlantic Salt is a folding pocket knife made from H-1 steel.
It's been speculated the sheepfoot shaped blade originated with mariners who found the rounded tip especially beneficial when the knife was accidentally dropped (think working on a ship in pitching seas) as it couldn't injure anyone when hitting the deck. It's also been hypothesized that commanding officers on these ships preferred rambunctious hardworking sailors carry knives without pointed tips, especially while in port blowing off steam after months at sea.
Spyderco's Rescue knives are long favoured by seafarers and the design has since been embraced by rescue workers, EMT's and ranchers. Now available in a rustproof version, the Atlantic Salt is a modified Rescue made with state of the art non-rusting H1 steel. H1 is a precipitation-hardened steel containing nitrogen instead of carbon, which cannot rust.
Textured with a Volcano Grip pattern, the molded fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) handle comes in black or visible marine yellow equipped with a reversible titanium pocket clip for right or left handed use. We recommend threading a thong or lanyard cord through the lanyard hole for back-up retention around water, where once dropped, a knife is often irretrievable or lost.

I put a lot of stress through my knives. I work on a fishing boat in the Scottish Islands. Knives rust. I hoped this would be the end of that. Unfortunately I have noticed surface rust after only a couple of weeks. It should clean up ok, but is disappointing. Secondly, the pocket clip bent on mine so I ended up losing it, gutting for a knife over £100. It seemed a little weak. I'd say this is probably a good knife for the leisure user, but it does need to be looked after as much as any other knife
Cuts through nylon rope with ease. Decided to get one after using a collueges at work. Better than throwing away a morkniv every 3 weeks.
Even a very very sharp plain blade can really struggle to cut some hard synthetic ropes. The Spyderco Atlantic goes through all ropes like they are thin string, and with one slash if you can use the length of the blade.
Commercial Divers by law have to carry a knife while in the water, this is one of my two diving knifes. Light weight, doesn't corrode and will cut through almost anything. Would highly recommend!
Diving Kayaking Climbing there is not a knife to touch this anywhere at any price it is the pinnacle of safety in action one handed opening razor sharp I have 3 all are still sharp and not a spec of rust after hundreds of hours of immersion. Most professional divers carry these as opposed to the Rambo stile dive knifes . Get one H1 steel just loves saltwater. simply brilliant
