SOG Field Knife 18

I'm disappointed to be writing this because I've been a big fan of SOG for years. They've produced some beautiful knives. I don't think this is one of them. I was seduced by the price and I've found, even with SOG, you get what you pay for, literally. It's very light, not very sharp and the picture is misleading: it makes it appear as if the blade is longer than the handle where it is actually shorter. Not the best knife choice I've ever made. I'd expect more of a field knife. I guess we'll be using this for camp cooking when I get a decent edge on it. I'm sorry to be disappointed.

This knife is a thing of beauty. Whoever designed it deserves an award of some kind. I often pick it up and just, yes, I admit it, I fondle it. It just looks and feels amazing in the hand. So good I feel like buying another one, which makes no sense at all.

I have had this knife for 4 months now, and I have to say I am seriously impressed with its performance. I was not expecting a knife of this quality for the price. The knife has one of the most comfortable handles I have ever used, and I have not experienced any hot spots or hand discomfort when using the knife. The blade has a hollow grind, and is razor sharp, edge retention has been excellent, and when required it is very easy to resharpen. The knife comes with a strong click type plastic sheath with integral belt clip, which works well on belts up to 1 1/2 inches wide. The knife also has a small cord cutting recess in the sheath which allows you to cut paracord and line without removing the knife. I found this feature veryuseful when ice fishing as it kept the need to remove gloves to a minimum. I had reservations about purchasing a hollow grind knife for bushcrafting tasks, but I am glad I did. The blade of this knife is deceptively strong. So far I have used the knife for processing small game and fish, food prep, and wood working bushcraft tasks.,and it has performed these tasks excellently. It carves, notches and feather sticks as well as any of my scandi grind knives, and that impresses me. I have batoned small pieces of wood for fire making, but I usually carry a small hatchet with me for that task. So that's my review,. It is my first SOG knife,but I do not think it will be my last.

Liked the look of this knife and once mine arrived found it to have such comfortable grip , sits lovely in the hand , the sheath grips the knife firmly , good idea the line cutter built in this knife has , perfect for bushcraft and camp use , very happy with this knife , the lanyard hole is great and the pommel has a good grind action , overall , a really nice full tang medium weight performer :-)

The sog field knife is a lovely bit of kit, I love sog stuff so when I saw this one I had to have it for my kit it feels nice and robust and the grip on the handle is awesome even with wet hands, for a camping or hunting knife this is a must have blade.

I am really impressed with this knife. A full tang design that feels substantial but light at the same time. Really comfortable in the hand and a section cut in the sheath allows cutting of cordage and line without deploying the knife. Useful exposed end section of the tang which can be used as a glass breaker or grinder. The sheath offers firm retention and a very solid clip for a belt or pack. At just under £40 it is incredible value for money. This is a knife really worth considering for bushcraft, hunting or survival. SOG have upped their game here in the budget price range of knives. Last year I bought a Mora Kansbol, which I am pleased with but at the same price I feel this knife offers quite a bit more. This is a purchase you will be glad to make.
