The Schrade F36 Micarta is a well priced, very solid knife. It features striking black and white micarta-style handle scales, bolted strongly to the full tang handle with sturdy hex-bolts. The Schrade F36 is a smaller version of the Schrade F37.

The drop point blade is black-coated 8Cr13MoV stainless and the feature which stands out when this blade is in the hand is the sheer weight of the knife. The steel is a good 5mm thick from front of the blade right through to the lanyard hole in the handle. One feels that this is not a tool to let you down.

The top of the handle is heavily knurled on the metal, but not the micarta of the handle, allowing good, strong purchase to be applied to the task at hand. The same knurling is present beneath the handle.

The knife is supplied with a basic nylon non-MOLLE sheath with a 5cm belt loop, and securing lace. A good bit of kit for the money.

    Schrade Frontier 36 Micarta Fixed

Posted by Gary Ralph on 18th Mar 2025

The Frontier 36, the not so little brother of the 37 is a really really good Survival/Bushcraft(Fighting) full tang knife. The pommel(with a lanyard hole) end of the tang gives this beast something substantial that you can hammer and smash with. It's a good looking, big heavy chunk of high carbon stainless steel in a protective coating. Thick, mean and very sharp(not describing myself, honestly). The micarta scales look the business! The shape and grip is top notch with considerable jimping on the top of the blade and around the handle. I like the nylon sheath. Its basic but well made, good strong stitching and front pouch containing a diamond sharpener and a ferro rod fire starter. Also has a securing lace. This is a pretty awesome piece of kit for the price. When you consider the price bracket and comparisons with other similar far more expensive top range survival/bushcraft knives that begin with K.. B.. E and T to name a few. I don't think you can go far wrong, and you pay a fraction of the price and get something of this quality. Only my opinion though. Impressed and pleased I have this as part of my kit. As always excellent customer service/care from Heinnie Haynes and DHL.

    Schrade Frontier 36

Thanks to HH for very fast dispatch and overnight delivery - superb, as always. I have collected Schrade / Uncle Henry fixed-blade and UK-legal pocket knives over many years - generally the better established designs. I took a shine to this one , initially, because of the stunning black-and-white micarta scales. I was not disappointed! This is a hefty beast, but so well balanced that it's extremely comfortable to hold. It just feels 'solid, secure and and reliable'... It's acceptably sharp straight out of the box, but I'll finish it off on a strop. rather than a stone. I've watched some online videos of it being tested quite harshly as as a chopping knife (battening), and feather-sticking. No probs there! The sheath is utilitarian - not pretty, but sturdy, highly functional , and with a pocket containing a basic sharpener and fire steel - enough to 'do the job' outdoors. The price is most reasonable for what you get - so represents excellent value. I sense you'd have to pay a lot more for anything substantially better... I'm pleased to display it alongside my other Schrade/Uncle Henry knives - and looking forward to actually using this one!
