    A Powerful Signal Device

Posted by AKM on 21st Apr 2024

Packed these as part of our survival kit on a remote unguided packraft trip in the Amazon rainforest. A good reassuring weight to the mirror (small size) and the glass feels like it's near unbreakable. Instructions are easy to follow but definitely worth putting in some practice before relying on in a stressful situation (I used a bright torch light indoors at home to replicate the sun, and this was enough to get comfortable with the technique). I've given 4 stars as although some of the black paint is starting to wear off very quickly, the mirror itself is still perfectly functional. If this was packed away in a survival kit until it was needed it would probably be fine, but I've used it more regularly as a contact lens mirror and that's probably why the paint is getting a bit worn with more regular use! If you are headed to a remote area, this is the thing to carry.
