Rough Ryder Highland Bowie 18

So . I have a few rough rider knives they are budget pieces no doubt but often excellent value for money . You get a fine knife for a fraction of the cost of the one it's based on . That being said this purchase was not up to scratch it had an edge ... It looked amazing and feels great in the hand . The unusual straight geometry makes it feel more like a short sword than a traditional "bowie" Sadly with a simple tip test a light bend left to right it snapped 1/4" of tip clean off . When I looked at the cross-section I can see a colour difference in the steel So I can't blame R.R for this I was unlucky it seems Blooming inclusions grrrrrr.. Still for the price it's an impressive blade .

The handle snapped like a carrot during chopping for kindling as previous reviews suggested it might. A lovely looking, well balanced, sharp knife, but rotten at heart. AVOID unless it is purchased for display only.

beast of a knife, but tang is a stick tang, I have taken mine apart and tigged some meat to it, now its strong as it should have been.

Unfortunately this knife barely has a stub of a tang . The handle is actually a casting made to look like the knife is full tang . I would argue that this knife is only for display . Any heavy chopping could see the blade fail . Possibly dangerous , definitely something I’d use . A real shame as the knife is very attractive .

**** as shown in this review, and contrary to the description on this site, the Rough Rider Highland Bowie only has a partial tang, having previously ordered this knife and had it arrive with a snapped tip i cannot rate this higher than the tomato slicer it seems to aspire to be. It's a shame this isn't a full tang, as advertised, because it really is a weighty and beautiful blade. Heinnie gets 5 stars for absolutely excellent customer service and swift refund.

I thought this knife might be too heavy to use comfortably ,but I am pleasantly surprised.This is still a big ,chunky knife,but it’s very easy to handle ,& looks very appealing. If you like a larger knife give this a try you won’t be disappointed.

this is an incredible looking knife no doubt mine has the slightest black mark on the micarta scales hence (4 stars) but as this will be used and not just "in the cabinet" im not bothere , the bowie is large and heavy and very comfortable to hold. once you get used to the size and weight it is a formidable tool again HH went above and beyond in delivery again and got it to me in really quick time . thanks

A nice big bowie that ticks all the boxes, it's a very nice package. High quality, thick blade with an impressive look, check. Comfy handle that makes it easy to index but also to change grip, check. Can be sharpened to whatever edge you need, check. Good quality sheath, holds blade securely but also easy to draw or resheath, check. Excellent value from a supplier that never disappoints, CHECK. It's gone straight into my very desirable bowies case and several of its companions cost ten times as much.
