Romney's Kendal Mint Cake was the first Mint Cake to be successfully carried to the top of Mount Everest on 29th May 1953 this being the first successful expedition to the summit.

This is a bar of edible mint biscuit, ideal to sustain the most tiring expedition.

Romney's were approached by the 1953 expedition to Everest, to see whether he could supply mint cake to them within 7 days. Sir Edmund Hillary and Sirdar Tensing ate this mint cake on top of Everest as they gazed at the countryside down below. Tensing also left some to appease his 'gods'. This happening naturally increased sales of mint cake to hikers and climbers and visitors to the Lake District.

A member of the successful Everest Expedition wrote - "It was easily the most popular item on our high altitude ration - our only criticism was that we did not have enough of it."

    Kendal Bl**dy Mint Cake!

Posted by Steven Oliver on 1st May 2024

The original and the best. Usually chuck one in the basket when placing an order. Refreshing, but don’t eat too many at once as what Jack Dee says ‘you’ll slip into a diabetic coma ‘

    It Does The Job

This isn't your usual choccybar. It's to give a sugar-boost from the minimum storage space. The mint gives an edge to what would otherwise be a sugary-sickly taste. It's EDC for, well ... everyday.

    Nice

    Posted by G on 10th Jul 2015

These are quite nice mint flavoured bars. The peppermint flavour is strong and I thought it was similar to Trebor Extra Strong mints. The texture is firm and it is actually quite "heavy". Really quite nice as a once in a while type of snack but not something I could eat a lot of.
