Benchmade Bailout

The Benchmade Bailout is the tactical evolution of Benchmade's lightweight folder philosophy. Built for military and law enforcement professionals, the 537 Bailout delivers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio in a package that doesn't compromise on durability. With a slim profile and robust construction, the Bailout can handle demanding tasks.

What sets the Bailout apart is its Japanese profile tanto blade. Unlike traditional American tanto designs with their straight belly and crisp bevel, this 8.6cm blade offers superior slicing performance alongside the reinforced tip strength tanto blades are known for. The blade comes in CPM 3V steel as standard, a high toughness tool steel favoured for hard use applications. Premium variants feature CPM M4, offering even better edge retention for extended cutting tasks.

The standard Bailout weighs just 58g with its textured Grivory handle. That's remarkably light for a tactical folder of this size. Aluminium-handled versions add a touch more weight at 77g but provide a different aesthetic and feel. Available in black and woodland green, the Bailout maintains a low-profile appearance suitable for professional carry. The distinctive aluminium pommel serves double duty as a structural reinforcement and a lanyard attachment point.

The ambidextrous AXIS lock provides smooth one-handed operation from either side. Combined with the reversible deep carry clip, the Bailout works equally well for right or left handed users. The dual thumb studs allow quick deployment when you need it.

Built to withstand high-stress situations, the Benchmade Bailout delivers tactical performance without the bulk. Keep yours performing at its best with one of our quality sharpeners.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the Benchmade Bailout suitable for tactical use?
+
The Benchmade Bailout is specifically designed for tactical applications and professional carry. The CPM 3V steel offers outstanding toughness and edge retention, making it reliable for demanding situations. At just 58g, the knife maintains tactical capability without adding unnecessary weight to your kit. The ambidextrous AXIS lock allows quick one-handed deployment.
What's the difference between CPM 3V and CPM M4 steel on the Bailout?
+
The primary difference between the two steels is their performance characteristics. CPM 3V is a high toughness tool steel that excels in impact resistance and edge stability, making it ideal for hard use applications where the blade might encounter tough materials or lateral stress. CPM M4 offers even better edge retention and wear resistance, meaning it holds a sharp edge longer between sharpening sessions. Both are non stainless tool steels requiring regular maintenance to prevent corrosion. CPM 3V provides the best balance of toughness and edge holding, M4 maximises cutting performance for extended use.
How does the Bailout compare to the Bugout?
+
The Bailout is often described as the tactical older brother of the Bugout series. Both share similar lightweight construction principles, with the Bailout maintaining approximately the same 57g weight class. The key differences are the Bailout's Japanese profile tanto blade compared to the Bugout's drop point, the addition of an aluminium pommel with lanyard slot, and the use of CPM 3V or M4 steel rather than S30V. The Bailout's tanto design provides reinforced tip strength for tactical applications, the Bugout offers more versatile general-purpose cutting geometry.
Which handle material should I choose for the Benchmade Bailout?
+
The Benchmade Bailout is available in textured Grivory or anodised aluminium handles. Grivory versions weigh 58g, offering the lightest possible carry weight combined with excellent grip texture and durability. Aluminium handled models weigh 77g, providing a more premium feel and different visual aesthetic, particularly in woodland green. Grivory excels for those prioritising minimum weight and maximum grip in wet conditions. Aluminium offers better rigidity and a more substantial feel in hand. Both materials provide secure, ergonomic handling for tactical applications.
