The Opinel knife was invented by Joseph Opinel in 1890 in Savoie as a simple working man's or peasant's knife. It proved popular with the local farmers, herdsmen, and paysans-vignerons (peasant winemakers) of the area. In 1897, a series of twelve sizes, numbered 1 to 12, was developed. From 1901-1903, Joseph Opinel built his first factory in Pont de Gévoudaz and produced a machine for mass production of the knife's wooden handles. A few years later Opinel annual sales were in the hundreds of thousands, and by the start of World War II as many as 20 million knives had been sold.
Ideal for sporting activities such as mountaineering, paragliding, trekking, canyoning, pot holing, sailing and other nautical activities the Opinel No.8 Outdoor Knife is an excellent tool for the outdoor enthusiast or survivalist.

Excellent - super sharp, lightweight and looks great. I spend so much time outside "doing jobs" around our paddocks and after running over my previous knife with my tractor (!!!) needed a quick replacement" great service great knife - I will be back
Good service and delivery from Heinnie. Securely packaged . I have looked at this knife quite a few times and was put off by the handle ! Finally succumbed . I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite a departure from the usual Opinels of whichI have quite a few in my collection . It is quite tactile comfortable to hold and not tacky like I first thought . The blade is stainless extremely sharp and the serration likewise. a very useful blade . I have no use for the shackle key not being a sailor . The whistle is very loud and my dog turned up to see what it was ! As it’s a locker I have used it round and about the garden and in the home and it performs well. It has done odd bits of food prep and the thin blade excels. Everything else including good quality is typical Opinel.
bought this for my boyfriend and think he is pretty happy with it
I bought this knife as a gift for a friend. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. I would definitely recommend heinne and will order from them again.
nice knife with whistle and shackel opener ,part serated blade great for hikeing or just as a edc
A very strong knife. great locking mechanism & i have found when ist shut tight / closed the backof h blade makes a top striker for a fire steal .
Love the locking ring and whistle. I never go on a hike without it. The whistle came in handy to scare off a dog that was looking a little aggressive. I like the feel of the handle much more than my Victorinox Tinker.
This is a proper workhorse of a knife. Feels good in the hand, doesn't slip much for a rounded handle and is super sharp out the box. The serrations make short work of anything you need to hack through and the upper blade can be used for more finesse work. I use this backstage at UK music festivals for all situations. The simple locking mechanism means I can loan it to some of my crew without them losing a finger. And the whistle is super annoying and the right pitch to get people out their bunks most rikki tik.
