Opinel knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the good strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy sharpening. The handles are made from durable French orange beech wood, and the Opinel Yatagan blades, with their curved points and round profiles, are effective, precise and elegant. The Opinel Carbon Steel Non-Locking knives are have blades under 3 inches and therefore legal to carry in the UK.

Arrived quickly, we’ll packaged and the little slipjoint is value for money for friendly pocket carry. The slim blade is sharp and retains an edge more than you would think for in such a budget piece.
Handy little knife. Very sharp on arrival, but takes a razor edge quickly. Small blade so not for big tasks, but made short work of some leather I needed to cut up and this was the nearest knife, and kept the edge very well. For the money, you just can't complain. Not for collecting, buy it and use it.
What can I say? Opinel make superb, low cost knives. I have a No. 8 and a No.12, but I cannot carry these legally here in the UK. I've had the Inox version, and am very pleased with it. You cannot go far wrong with an Opinel.
I have several of these already, but they all have a lock on the blade making them no good for an EDC. I like them because they are sharp but also very light, perfect for a pocket knife, so I am pleased to have this addition to my collection.
This is seriously small! But it's actually a very nice little knife and a fun attachment to your keyring when your not carrying (or it's not appropriate to carry) your regular EDC. Blade is sharp and ok for simple, very light tasks. It is a bit flimsy so it is restricted use. I've never owned an Opinel but I really like it on my keys. If you're an Opinel fan then this is probably a must-have!
Ignore bad reviews from people who bought the wrong knife and then blame the knife they bought - this is a great little peasant knife for the price. The blade is very thin, and very sharp. I had fallen in love with an Opinel No. 8 Inox, and I wanted a smaller Opinel that would be EDC legal in the UK (i.e. with a blade under three inches, and non-locking) so that I could drop it in my pocket and forget about it. As it turns out, the carbon steel No. 5 isn't quite that - the spine is showing signs of oxidation after just a few weeks. If you buy one, be sure to treat it to a drop of oil occasionally, and keep it dry. My favourite pocket knives are a little indiscreet to open in polite company, and this, once oiled, is not ideal for food preparation. I've put a stainless steel Opinel No. 5 on my wish list.
I was looking for a larger knife (size 7 actually) and somehow ended up on this site and buying a number 4 - if that doesn't mean anything - its a key ring size. Supposed to be a gift. If that wasn't bad enough the locking mechanism doesn't work at this size
