Any form of recreational or professional sailing involving ropes means that a super sharp knife, capable of cutting through tough ropes is essential. It needs to have: Single handed opening.. check Strong lanyard loop or hole...check Sufficiently small when folded to be tucked into a life jacket pocket and with no parts that can snag on a rope: it comes with a clip which you can remove if you need to. It must be razor sharp, check a serrated and very very sharp blade. In addition the tool has a very handy plier, gripper, and integrated shackle key (part of the pliers). And a locking marlin spike which is very good quality and most importantly round in profile rather than square. The quality is first class, beautifully made and a step up on the usual sailor's Jack knife.

Great delivery from Heinnie Firstly I am not a sailor so cannot comment about saltwater . This is a great little knife.which I have used a lot at home . Apart from being an unusual but attractive looking shape the handle fits my hand (.medium to large ) well and is comfortable to hold . The blade is Japanese marine stainless and sharp. , locking up nicely ,as does the spike , with no wobbles.Both are useful for general duties.and work well even without a boat! The pliers are a bit different from the normal leatherman pointed ends and are designed for undoing and tightening recalcitrant shackles I assume. I have used them for gripping,and undoing small bolts for which they are very effective . A nice belt pouch with a generous fit I,think lined with neoprene easily securely contains the tool. and completes the package A lot of thought has gone into this Japanese made knife and at this price point I think it's great value for money!
