The Magnum Rangebuster is one of the classic Solingen knives that gained international popularity, being appreciated by working knife users all over the world. US farmers know it as Sodbuster, miners in Northern France call it Mineur, while workmen in Solingen named it Hippekniep. Honouring this traditional slipjoint knife, Magnum designed the Rangebuster Damascus with exclusive handle scales of dark ebony or snakewood and a blade of 73-layer Damascus steel. It opens with a nail nick and doesn't lock and has a blade under three inches long so is legal to carry within the UK.

Very poor blade finish and quality control

    Posted by N.P on 28th Aug 2021

As soon as I removed the knife from the wrapper I noticed a fairly large ding/chip to the ebony handle. Unfortunately, things got worse when I opened the knife to find an unevenly finished blade that wasn't even ground to the tip. The blade also seemed fairly thin, not suitable for an everyday cary.

    Magnum rangebuster damascus

Really nice knife for the money. The blade ls beautiful and the patterned wood sets the whole thing off. The blade was shaving sharp out of the box. If I was to be really picky I’d say the handle could have just been finished slightly finer but to be honest, it’s a lot of knife for the money. Usual great service from the Heiinnie crew. Chin Chin

A beautiful, well put together knife for the money

Posted by Scrotal Fungus on 25th Apr 2021

I bought the Ebony handled version of this nice and I could not be happier with the fit and finish of mine, the blade is shave sharp, and we are talking hair like a wookie, there was no movement at all in the blade once opened, and even though it is not a locking knife, when opened it 'locked' into place extremely securely and was more of an effort to do than I expected, which is good in my eyes. It is a gentlemens knife for best/going out, not for hacking tree's down and hunting buffalo. The 76 layer damascus blade is beautifully done, and the packaging it comes in is nicely presented.

    Magnum Rangebuster Damascus

I have the snake wood handle version which has a lovely pattern and feels really hard, the blade is beautiful with the dappling and overall the knife seems very solidly put together. Has the feel of a product made well and made to last.

    Lovely piece of kit

    Posted by C S on 12th Oct 2020

I purchased this as a present for my Father, so haven't used it myself. However, it looks lovely and seems very well built. Hopefully he'll be pleased with his new pocket knife!

    Poor quality

Posted by Rys on 28th Jul 2020

Mine is looks like been used before, and the blade is kind of dirty, apart from that it is not a real damascus steel its been printed on the surface. I am very dissapointed

    Really Pleased

Posted by Frank on 14th Jul 2020

I received my Magnum Rangebuster Damascus – Snakewood today and I must say I am stunned at the quality. I have carried a pocket knife all my life and always just thought of them as a tool, and have never spent a lot of money on them. I only found out recently the small lock knife I carried for many years is now illegal (stupid law to ban a safety function) so wanted to get a daily pocket knife. I saw the Damascus I thought it was amazingly cheap and so was not expecting much quality but thought I give it a try. The Rangemaster has a really nice Damascus pattern the fit and centering are spot on. There is a very small amount of flex on the pivot but for a knife, at this price, you cannot go wrong

    Great pocket knife IMO

Posted by MikeH on 7th Jul 2020

I opted for the Ebony version, in part due to the negative feedback on the Snakewood version, but also as it suits my other EDC gear better. I'm happy to report I'm very happy with the purchase and I have no issues with the one I received. The finish and quality of mine are great. No liner gaps, no flaws. Well-assembled and feels great. The 'walk and talk' is nice. There's a satisfying snap when opening and closing. I think the 'blade play' reported by other customers is perhaps just bad luck. On the one I received, there is a very slight blade play if you really want there to be (if you grab the tip of the blade and apply enough force!), but for me, this knife is a classic slipjoint, something cool to have in the pocket and won't be used for anything extreme. It still feels good to me. If you're after a good-looking, classic pocket knife for general EDC tasks at a good price, then IMO this is a great choice.
