Gudy van Poppel is a fulltime Dutch Bladesmith well known for his work in both Europe and the United States. He started as a genuine Blacksmith and has been making blades for several decades. His Gitano design for Lion Steel he describes thus, "My idea behind the Gitano was to make a folding knife that is based on old south European folding knives in a new style. Lion Steel loved Gudy’s idea and decided to start this new collaboration with him and Tools For Gents that helped us to develop the final versions. The Lion Steel Gitano Santos Wood is an extremely practical and great looking folding knife that joins the “Tradition by LionSteel” collection.
It has a Niolox stainless steel satin blade and, in this version, 6AI4V titanium bolsters and liners with Santos wood handle scales. For its light weight and average dimensions, Gitano is the new elegant slipjoint knife to keep with you in your everyday working life.

An outstanding slipjoint folder. The lockup is very strong and gives a real feeling of confidence. Not UK legal but perfect for around the house - it's always in my pocket. The fit and finish is perfect. I think Lionsteel are brilliant and it's so good to have a knife made in Italy that is just quality all round. It came sharp out of the box and I've not had to touch it up yet. It's a Yes from me!
