    Leatherman Bond

Posted by John on 30th Jul 2024

Cheapo and reasonably cheerful. They are very stiff straight out of the box (too stiff, frankjly) but are UK 'legal' so... reasonably selection of tools (though I'd like a scissors) and cheap opnly in leatherman world, obviously.

Leatherman bond and additional pocket clip.

Posted by Graham on 23rd May 2024

Having been used to my leatherman surge, but not comfortable having it as a daily carry, I was initially underwhelmed by the bond. But having added the pocket clip, which is more secure than any of the other types of additional clips, I now carry it daily with pleasure. The blade is just the right shape and is sharp out of the box. The overall size makes it a perfect edc. Would definitely recommend for an inoffensive daily tool. Love it.

    An elegant solution

Posted by Blackhill on 15th May 2024

What an absolute cracker of a multitool .I own a few multi tools including a Wave plus and Surge. I wasn't holding too much hope for the Bond .I was wrong .It's very elegant and slim .Though it's a slip joint the tension bar gives a great sense of security and the redesigned sheepsfoot blade is a great idea .I had to send my Surge back for a replacement due to poor fit & finish .No issues with this one .paired with my Sak Farmer x and I feel I can do pretty much anything that might crop up day to day .And UK legal .I love it and definitely plan on getting a spare as a backup .I feel the Surge is a great heavy duty tool suited to Alone.Rje bond is a very refined well designed every day carry tool .Well done Leatherman .You got this one right .

    Leatherman Bond

Posted by Ed on 7th May 2024

Quality is solid but only after some work. This is a follow up review after a few weeks. This tool has some rough edges/design issues that really should have been ironed out. I guess that I was expecting everything to be good on this tool straight from the factory but it's not the case. A couple of issues have been rectified with this revision - namely the possibility for the main blade to come out of the body and potentially injure. This has been sorted by the change of blade shape to a modified wharncliffe, and by a hinge spring redesign that prevents the blade from falling open a little. The new blade is a better shape, I think, but it's more crudely ground than the previous drop point blade. It is also thicker behind the edge. The tool frame had sharp edges that I needed to sand down, and the file sat ever so slightly proud of the frame so that when gripping the pliers hard the file teeth along the sides of the spine are uncomfortable. Again a bit of filling/sanding sorted this issue but I feel that this shouldn't really be necessary with a Leatherman. It is, however, a very decent and solid tool, and good value when these issues have been sorted.

    Step down in quality

Posted by Ed on 24th Apr 2024

This is a significant step down in quality from the Rebar that I bought a few years ago. At least with this updated version the blade spring and shape have been altered so that it can no longer partially open before the hinge spring engages, so that's a plus. The blade is now a modified wharncliffe which will not spike you even if it opens a little whilst using the pliers, (which it won't due to the hinge being corrected). However the blade is crudely and unevenly ground, mine was not sharp and it's much thicker behind the edge than the previous drop point. The sharp edges of the file protrude slightly proud of the handle when using the pliers which can be painful under heavy use. For a fairly simple design all problems should have easily been ironed out by now, but they have not. Although it's better value than many of this brand it should nevertheless be better quality.

    Leatherman Bond

Posted by Dennis Congram on 14th Feb 2024

I already own a Leatherman Surge and a Wave and I love them both. I have recently changed jobs and now have little reasonable excuse to carry a knife with a locking blade although I do need small tools fairly often so thought I would give the Bond a try because of its non-locking blade and the ever present pliers and screwdrivers. It is not as elegant as its larger cousins but it has its own charm in that it is compact. It sits on my belt in its case and it is unnoticeable until needed. I also ordered the tool driver for it. It fits over the Philips screwdriver and sits quite securely. Fortunately I have 2 sets of the extra bits (one for the Surge and one for the Wave). It was a work of a moment to swap bits so that I have what I need with the Bond’s driver. I like the fact that the knife sits inside the arms so that the Bond has to be unfolded to get access to the blade. This makes it less imposing compared to a Surge with its outside mounted one hand opening blade. Overall I am pleased with my Bond and look forward to reaching for it whenever jobs need doing.

    Superb Multi Tool

Posted by Michael James Nicholls on 9th Nov 2023

I bought this as I wanted a UK legal carry multi tool. I do have a Wingman. This tool is several leagues above the Wingman in terms of quality and how it feels in the hand. It does not have scissors, like the Wingman, but the toolset on the Bond is significantly better, especially the Philips screwdriver. And the fact that it comes with a decent pouch just adds up to a very good buy for the money.

Usual Leatherman Quality in a UK carry format

Posted by James on 26th May 2022

I am definitely a leatherman fan, this is my third. The fit and finish is superb as is the presentation (a really nice gift style presentation box with cordura case). The tools (including the knife) are non-locking and thus UK carry legal which was the attraction for me to this model as there aren't many UK legal multitools around that have a reasonably sized pair of pliers. This still feels like a quality product, but somehow without the locking tools it doesn't feel quite as 'prestige' as my other leathermans. I have nothing negative to say about the quality, it is still great. The blade and tools are well tensioned out of the box so you can open it without losing your nails and yet tight enough so they don't flap about when in use. I think maybe it just reminds me of the chinese leatherman multitool clones from 20 years ago that didn't have locking blades and were either way too lose or extremely tight. The Bond is nothing like those at all, but somehow still feels a small step down from a 'proper' leatherman. The only place where it really loses points for me is that you have to pay £15 for the pocket clip. It is a tiny bent piece of metal and two minute screws, for crying out loud Leatherman, stick one in every box for free!!
